Where did my labour go?!

Hello,

I’ve had signs of labour for weeks (strong and constant braxton hicks, losing bits of plug regularly) I had a sweep on Friday, the midwife said everything looked good - I was already 2-3cm with bulging waters and a soft cervix. Had some cramping and a little bit of blood mixed in with discharge, maybe the odd contraction (or what felt like it through the night) roll on 24 hrs later and nothing…

Went for a long walk, bounced on my ball and finally DH and I had sex. I instantly lost what looked like a mucus plug (no blood) and within a few minutes painful contractions started about 2-3 mins apart. Decided to lie down for half n hour and get some sleep if I could as was exhausted - I got an hour, woke up went for a wee, had another contraction… managed to fall asleep and now… nothing all gone…am having the most horrendous night sweats though!

Where did my labour go?! Desperate to get this baby out and now worried my body just won’t do it.

Is it your first baby? I had slow on / off labour for days with my first. It’s really frustrating. I think it can happen with any baby to be fair but more common with first babies. It sounds like you’re not far off but the only advice I have is try to stay relaxed and just keep bouncing on your ball and going for walks. It will get going soon I’m sure! Good luck!

I would suggest doing all you can to get your oxytocin levels up and reduce any cortisol or adrenaline that slow labour down. It may be a slow labour as PP says but also you may just need to relax a bit more and things may resume. Good luck. Exciting times! Baby isn't far away!

@Sotired22 It’s my first!! A few tightenings today and more plug but other then that nothing - feeling very disheartened :(

Thanks for the advice @WTF475878237NC on my ball and trying to chill! Hopefully everything starts again soon

My MIL said if you go to sleep when you're in labour it slows everything down a lot. Hope everything speeds up soon! Good luck!

Ps I also went to sleep with my first and contractions eased off but just kept staying calm etc and they picked back up. Don't get upset, you're doing really well!
