C section food before and after

I’m booked in for a c section this week and am trying to plan what to eat the night before and what type of meals to eat after. Any suggestions or ideas? And if you had a c section, what did you eat after?

I’m really craving a McDonald’s but am holding off until after little one arrives haha

Eat a substantial dinner because you won’t be allowed to eat the following morning! We went out for Italian with DC1 and with DC2 we ordered a Chinese.

Afterwards don’t be tempted to eat too much too quickly because you can make yourself sick. My consultant wanted me to have super soup but I’m not a fan so had a cheese baguette and fruit salad for pudding both times.

Also if you want a McDonalds then just have one… you don’t need to abstain on the ground of pregnancy!

The only thing I'd be wary of is constipation. Other than that just eat normally, I didn't change anything in my diet beforehand, and afterwards you'll just be on hospital food plus whatever snack you bring - I brought lots of dried fruit.

Have that McDonalds whenever you want!

I had nothing before as was nil by mouth, I was so hungry after 24 hours, DH brought in a McDs the next day. the hospital cold tinned ravioli wasn't really doing it for me.

If not nil by mouth I'd go for whatever you want but not too heavy, I was pretty sick with the spinal.

Get the McDs now if you want!

Are you booked in for a morning? You have to stop eating by a certain time the night before. I would just have whatever you feel like but nothing too stodgy or greasy as it could make you feel sick. Afterwards I just ate whatever I felt like off the hospital menu ( usually sandwiches) or got someone to bring me a sandwich from elsewhere. You'll probably be hungry but you won't want to feel bloated as it makes you get bad trapped wind afterwards as it is.

Thanks everyone, this is really helpful. My section will be in the morning so I think I have to be nil by mouth apart from water from 2am onwards

I was starving afterwards, so ignored the advice not to eat too much. Massively regretted it and had awful trapped wind and constipation.

Don't think it really matters with a c sec tbh. Just eat what you want.

DH and I went to a verrrrry expensive steakhouse for lunch the day before hand had an absolute blowout, then a bagel with smoked salmon for dinner before I went nil by mouth.

After the section I had no apatite, so had little snaky things like pretzels.

I had a massive Chinese the night before, but to be honest I didn’t enjoy it as much as I normally would because I was worried about the baby (section for medical reasons),
