How likely is it for me to go into labour before 39 weeks?

I'm in the middle of what seem like the UN peace talks with my consultant about my impending birth.

She really wants me to have a CS by 38 weeks, but I'm desperate to have a VBA2C, and know I can't really put the CS off much later than 39weeks because of complications etc so was wondering how likely it is for me to go into labour before that point?

Has anyone started their labours naturally before the 39weeks period?

How many of you went into labour spontaneously before 39 weeks??

not me im afraid, although i had ds2 at 39+2, just (was 3am birth).

spontaneous labour at 35 weeks, but with twins, so slightly different circs. How many weeks are you now?

40+6 for both of mine.
Really hope you manage it though - I'm full of admiration for women who go for VBAC

My colleague was aiming for a vbac (1 horrendous labour ending in high forceps, 1 elective cs), but was overdue and had a cs at 41 weeks in the end.

will you not be 'allowed' to go to 40 weeks? bearing in mind all the complications , i know it is a tough call

are you totally sure of your dates, is there any leeway at all?

both my children were born three and a half weeks early

and i have a thirteen year age gap too

Why don't they want you to go past 39 weeks? Are there other concerns? I had a VBA2C at almost 42 weeks.

There is soemthing wrong with the blood flow into my placenta, at my hospital they normally induce or CS at 38weeks because the risk of stillbirth apparently increases. I've managed to talk DP into supporting me to 39weeks, but he is worried, his mum is worried, the cons thinks its a really bad idea and I'm really not sure of whether to risk it or not.

Lulu, the cons said I can do whatever I want, so in theory I could go to 42 weeks if I wanted to, we've said we'll discuss it again at 38weeks.

Theres no real leeway with dates either, no. LMP puts me at due date 9th April, scan at 11th April and my periods are pretty spot on when it comes to timing.

I know Fio, I know, which is why it is such a hard decision to make.

Both of mine were early - 37 and 36 weeks.

Hope all works out well for you, but also echo that safety of your baby (and you, of course) is most important.

Oh VS, you must be so worried. I didnt go early on dd1 and dd2 was a section at 39 wks, so have nothing constructive to add sorry Just want you to see that I'm thinking of you

Sorry - can't help here - dd1 42wks & induced, dd2 41 wks and took 3 days of labour.

Having said that I don't know of that many people who have gone into labour before 39wks - must be the water here but most of my friends have either gone to term or over.

My ds was born at 37 and a half weeks if that helps. But would echo what others have said about putting safety of you and baby first - the stress of pressure from consultant and family may make any extra timeyou manage to hold out harder and you may still end up having a cs. Sorry - its a really hard decision for you. Ask for the true numbers for % increases on risk of stillbirth etc so you are fully informed - it may be a high % increase on a very tiny original risk but you need to know what risks you may be taking.
