Early labour?

Hi all, second time mum but first baby was induced so never experienced natural labour! I'm due for an induction on Thursdays because of pregnancy induced hypertension and cholestasis.

Yesterday, on three separate occasions, I had this lower back spasm (?) which really took my breath away. They each lasted between 10-20 seconds and throbbed so intensely that my stomach impulsively tensed with each throb. It was a really strong crampy feeling but only in my back. Today I've had some (almost unnoticeable) lower back pain and a super mild version of the back spasm that I had yesterday.

All morning I've been getting really sharp stabbing pains in my cervix (no mucus plug lost, of any sort of discharge). It hurts more when I walk and when I cough or sneeze. Baby has dropped because it's so much easier to breathe, eat etc. even lying down I can still feel the sharpness in my cervix, especially when I roll over or adjust my legs etc.

I have been nesting for a few weeks, really emotional lately and have had increased bowel movements (not loose stools) and flatulence.

Any advice or similar experiences would be great :)

No one can really say for certain! It's a waiting game at this stage!

I’m 39 weeks today. I started to have similar symptoms last Tuesday with Braxton Hicks and cervical happenings… so it definitely sounds like the start but doesn’t mean it’s imminent. Unless it does….! Started the induction process this morning an monitor showed I was having some contractions but I didn’t notice most of them.

Remember you can always call your triage line. I’m sure a midwife would be happy to talk to you about your symptoms and what to look out for/advise you when to call back. Anytime I’ve called they’re always happy to give some advice/reassurance - especially in these late stages.

Good luck!

I’m 39. + 3 . Hope you don’t mind me jumping on. I’ve been in the latent stage of labour for 9 days now! 1 cm dilated for a week and had some contractions last week that fizzled out. I’m so ready to give birth now. Having a lot of pressure but other than that nothing and this is my third baby. 1st and 2nd were both early. X
