Lewisham Birthing centre or the Oasis birthing centre in PRU

Hi ladies, I'm 18 weeks and am booked in with Lewisham. So far and hopefully if all goes to plan I am seen as low risk and am planning to give birth in the birthing centre which looks amazing and have heard great reviews.

My question is should I be looking at maybe changing to PRU? The birthing centre there looks a bit more clinical but I have heard great reviews about them as well. Just wondering if for any reason I am unable to deliver in the birthing centre and will need to deliver in the labour ward, which hospital has the better labour ward? Does anyone have any experiences with both or know of any experiences and how do the two birthing centres compare? When it comes to travel I'm in a similar distance to both so the travel is not an issue.

Thank you

Hi OP, I was booked into Lewisham birth centre for my first in 2019 but was induced so ended up on the labour ward. I had a good experience tbh, obviously the setting was much more clinical than the birth centre would have been but I brought in lots of home comforts and the room had a lovely view of Ladywell Fields! Midwives were great, really supportive. My experience on the postnatal ward at Lewisham was less positive but hearing friends' experiences at other London hospitals suggests this is unfortunately common. Nothing terrible, the midwives were great too there just weren't enough of them to go round. I'm sure whichever choice you make will be fine - both are good hospitals. Good luck with it all Smile

I've had one baby in Lewisham labour ward and one in Lewisham birth centre. I got the same midwife for both and she was amazing.

My first birth was due to be BC but I bled in labour so had to go to the ward. It was really nice and the midwife helped make it super comfortable for me. I had a quick and good birth there.

Second birth was a dream. Very quick, in the water, no tears and just lovely. The room and bed was nice too, though I wasn't there for long.

I was very pleased with lewisham for my births.

I've had friends go to the PRU but it's too far for me. My daughter in particular would have been born in the car park if we'd gone there lol.
