Hi all. Please I have a few questions regarding my c- sec. I am 2 weeks postpartum.

  1. Is it normal for there to a somewhat of a smell. It's not a rotten smell just like an aftermath smell. (It's hard to explain). It does hurt and I don't think it's open
  1. Is it normal for the blood discharge to also have an aftermath smell?
  1. Is it normal for the top of the stitiches to start getting hard. Is it a sign of healing

Thank you so much 🥰

The smell probably indicates an infection, think you’ll need to see a doctor to get some antibiotics to clear it up

MsChatterbox · 05/02/2022 06:08

I didn't notice any smell with either of mine!

eurochick · 05/02/2022 06:10

I had no smell. It could be a sign of infection.

peonyrose87 · 05/02/2022 06:12

A smell is normally a sign of infection. I'd get it checked out ASAP x

By blood discharge do you mean from vagina? If so then yes this will be a bit more smelly than a normal period. I can't remember how my stitches felt I don't think I ever touched them tbh!

Theawkwardblonde · 05/02/2022 08:34

Had my section 4 weeks ago.

  1. there should be no smell. As others have said a smell indicates infection.
  2. if it's blood from the wound, it shouldn't really be bleeding at this point. That too would indicate infection. If it's vaginas discharge it can still be bloody but shouldn't really have a smell to it.
  3. the stitches will go hard before they dissolve.

Sounds like you have an infection. I had one, and a course of antibiotics has got it starting to heal nicely.

@MsChatterbox thank you. Yea the discharge blood, ok that explains it. It also doesn't look fresh.

@Theawkwardblonde thanks. Meant blood from down below. It looks like old blood not bright red like period. It also has like a aftermath smell, hard to explain.
With the c scar when it goes hard is that part of the healing process?
The scar has a subtle smell hard to explain..I guess antibiotics can't do.any harm will call gp on Monday. Does it matter that I'm breast feeding. Thank u

None of that sounds normal, sorry. No bit if it should go hard? Contact your Phn.

MsChatterbox · 05/02/2022 10:14

Mention that you are breastfeeding there are antibiotics that are safe for it! Some will try to say take these and use formula but push for it there are safe ones!

Theawkwardblonde · 05/02/2022 11:41

@IloveGod2 the blood sounds normal. Mine went darker but it didn't really have an odour other then blood.
It depends what part is hard. Half of mine went hard but that's where the infection was on me. Is the hard bit painful to touch?

IloveGod2 · 05/02/2022 14:18

@Theawkwardblonde thank you. No it doesn't hurt. It's just slightly hard somewhat on top of the scar. It's just confusing cos some people say it's normal while others say not. I will call gp on Monday.
