Elective C Section after due date

Just wondered how common this is and how many people go into labour before the date?

Mines just been booked for 40 +2 and I'm a little surprised as wasn't expecting it

I’ve been told they usually do elective at 39 weeks. I’m 20 weeks now and first was emergency c section.

I’d call them and ask. I’d be nervous that late as I went into labour naturally at 40+2 myself with DD.

DaffodilDandilion · 02/02/2022 12:18

Mine was booked for a couple of days after my due date. I had requested a CS for psychological reasons due to past trauma.

I went into Labour at 39+2 and my Labour was too quick/ anaesthetist wasn’t available in time for me to have the CS so I gave birth vaginally.

I’m not sure what they would had done if there were physical reasons for my CS request.

I was told beforehand that first time mums always go pay their due date so not to worry.

I’m sorry this isn’t hugely reassuring x

As above. I would be nervous. I had my elective at 36+6 with DTs and expecting an elective at 39 weeks this pregnancy.

Notevenabit · 02/02/2022 12:27

I was given a choice of two dates for elective ( due to first birth trauma). One was 39+4 and one was 40+1. I was VERY overdue with my first and doubt I will go early so trying not to worry but I know what you mean … it does seem late but it seemed like the only dates they had available when I booked months ago.

terriblyangryattimes · 02/02/2022 12:31

I had my first child at 40+2, it was the only date they had available apparently, was booked at 37 weeks.

wingingit33 · 02/02/2022 13:32

I'm currently booked for 39w but they're trying to move to 38+3

squatternutbosh12 · 02/02/2022 14:30

@wingingit33 hi, what’s leading them to try to move it to 38+3 if you don’t mind me asking?

wingingit33 · 02/02/2022 14:50

@squatternutbosh12 I have late diagnosed gestational diabetes (I was diagnosed at 35w) so 38+3 is apparently the maximum they'll go to

squatternutbosh12 · 02/02/2022 14:57

@wingingit33 ah I see, thanks, good luck with everything

redandwhite1 · 02/02/2022 20:05

This is my second child and have opted for a c section due to trauma with my first so going into labour naturally scares the hell out of me

Going to speak to my midwife about it as I don't feel they are listening to me at all

I went 6 days overdue with my first so feel 40+2 is way too close for my liking

This is what they've told me too, they had one at 37 weeks but said that's too soon (fair enough) and the next one was 40+2

Not overly sure I believe them though as if it was medical I bet there's one, I feel because it isn't they're playing the give her one but in the hope it arrives sooner and I don't use the slot

Mine was booked last month for 39 weeks on the dot. I think you should speak to your midwife.

CountdownToChaos · 03/02/2022 20:22

My first was booked for my due date but I went into spontaneous labour at 39+2. I still had my section (I requested it, it wasn't medically necessary). I'm now due my second baby and my section has been scheduled for when I'm 39+4. Hoping this one hangs on until then.

cafedesreves · 03/02/2022 21:09

Mine was booked for 40+2. Went into Labour 40+1 so they did it then instead! No problem.

cafedesreves · 03/02/2022 21:11

I wanted a September not august date 😂 As there was no problem if I went into labour naturally it was no issue. I just went in and had it the day before

Ducksurprise · 03/02/2022 21:13

I've never made my booked section, but each time I've gone in they have seen I've been booked and just added me to the list.

SpringheelJack · 04/02/2022 11:21

I was booked in for week 39 twice - but went into labour ahead of my slot both times. This really isn't a big deal! You just phone up when labour starts and say "I'm in labour but have a section booked" then they tell you to come in and just do it then. It feels a little bit more stressful when you're throwing the last few bits in your hospital bag and heading in, but honestly I think it was easier than the anxious build-up to my booked date would have been. There are also advantages to having a few labour hormones coursing through your system. I get why it feels nerve-wracking having it booked so late, but if you do go into labour before then, you'll be fine!

Thanks for this, quite reassuring. Just worried it all happens quickly and then they say it's too late for the c section! Would have to wait 40 mins for family to get to us to have our little boy and it's all worries going round in my head
