Anyone else still waiting for their Christmas babies?

DS was due on 23rd and really thought I would end up with an Xmas baby but now 40+6 and still no sign. On top of that have got flu and have been in bed for the past 3 days.

Anyone else still waiting? Had a sweep yesterday and have been booked in for induction next Fri. Really hoping it happens before that as was hoping to get into the birthing centre.

think I may know how you feeling Jen99..am 40+2 with ds3, had sweep yesterday to no avail, although 3/5th engaged showing absolutely no other signs of anything being imminent. I too really aiming for birthing centre so am wanting to avoid induction while also not wanting to deliver baby who will not fit into all those 0-3mths clothes he has received over Christmas!

You have 6 days so a lot can happen before then. Was told to allow 48 hours after sweep so fingers crossed for you. Are you showing any other signs of things progressing?

p.s. am giving up on many recommended ways to help labour along and relying solely on retail therapy..at least I have ended up with some bargains as I face another night without a even a niggle!

Jen99 · 29/12/2007 21:20

Noregrets - about the same as you, baby still 3/ths engaged and no signs. Have too given up on all the ways of bringing labour on. Am getting fed up of people asking 'any news yet?'

Sweep might do the trick - two friends who have recently had babies went into labour 2 days after having a sweep so keeping fingers crossed for both of us!

Maybe it's for the best if your baby to cooks a bit longer whilst your body fights off the flu. You can recover a bit before you have a newborn to contend with, they're exhausting enough even without flu!

fleacircus · 30/12/2007 06:30

Me too, 40+5 today. Am only up now because I thought I might be having contractions but nothing has happened for about half an hour so must have been wishful thinking. I want my baby!! [sulks]

Although I'm only due today, I've been having major niggles (regular 5min BH with accompanying backache) for well over two weeks now, and the LO has been 4/5 engaged since 36 weeks. I was all geared up for an early baby, and now he's going to be late - very frustrating! Not to mention the fact I'm the size of a house, can't get more than 3 hours sleep a night (what's with all the sweating?!?!) and have no energy whatsoever. Have completely given up on all the things that are meant to get labour started - except the clary sage baths - they're about bearable!

We unplugged our landline and turned off all our mobiles yesterday to get some peace from the incessant phone calls, and it was bliss! Except for when we turned the phone back on again to find 4 missed calls from FIL who assumed I'd gone into labour because we hadn't answered. What part of "We'll call you if anything happens" do they not understand?!?!

Apologies for the minor hi-jack, but I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about, and I feel so much better for the rant!

Naetha · 30/12/2007 11:15

Oh and apologies for ranting some more, and this isn't meant personally Softmusk, but the next person who tells me to "enjoy this bit" and "make the most of it" will get a virtual clip around the ear!!!!

Wanted to ask Jen99 if sweep successful? I still here..but becoming more resigned to having overdue baby.

Have decided to spend this week indulging myself each day with something..beauty treatment, shopping, lunch with friends etc. Am hoping this lifts feeling of impatience and expectation hanging over me each day.

Today have planned spot of shopping followed by face mask. Probably be unable to resist temptation to fit in some inane cleaning task that have avoided successfully for years.

Realise probably kidding myself and all new positive thinking will have woren off by noon!

noregrets · 31/12/2007 09:58

oops...worn off not woren. Obviously getting dizzy with excitement of day ahead.

bumpybecky · 31/12/2007 21:55

yup - still waiting due Boxing Day (or Xmas Eve depending on which date you believe) and still here. It had dropped and engaged a bit, but decided to come back up again - GRRRR

I really don't want to have to do school runs again from Thursday still pregnant. Just couldn't hack all the comments!

tinytotmummy · 31/12/2007 23:52

Just wanted to share my sympathy with you guys, DH and I are just reminiscing that this time 3 years ago, we were in the pub still waiting for our xmas day baby to arrive! She decided she wanted to wait until the new year, and we are now preparing for her birthday tomorrow.

Good luck to all of you.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 01/01/2008 10:55

BumpyBecky - I 100% am with you about school runs! I really, REALLY can not bear the thought of walking through that playground at 41+5 next Monday. The comments were driving me mad anyway at the end but if I am still pregnant I think I will send the kids in a taxi!!!!!

shinyshoes · 01/01/2008 12:55

i'm 40+3 and still no signs for me either. The head isnt even engaged

Dotsie · 01/01/2008 13:21

Still going here too. 40+2, and no signs apart from occasional period type pains and trapped wind! I too am not keen on going back to the school run on monday still pregnant...especially as i was convinced this one would be early! How wrong can you be! Oh well...what will be will be. Looks as if I'll be waddling up the hill to school next monday at 41+1 People at least haven't been too bad about continually phoning to ask if I've had the baby yet!

Now... washing up, ironing or putting more washing in the machine...which first? Hmmmmmm... decisions decisions!

Jen99 · 04/01/2008 13:56

Still waiting....

Had to ring the hospital at 0715 this morning as 'booked in' for induction but so far they do not have any beds although there is only me and one other on the list today so keeping fingers crossed. It is driving me mad though as was told when I rang up to start getting ready, hence have been ready since 8am. Now waiting for the hospital to phone. I have rung back once already and will try again soon.

Not sure what happens if they can't fit me in today? Will be 42 weeks on Sunday and also have not seen my midwife since last Friday. Baby is still active but would still like some reassurance that he is still doing ok.

Any others due in Dec still waiting?

noregrets · 05/01/2008 15:14

Sorry to hear you still waiting Jen99...you must really have had enough by now.
Know you probably sick of all the helpful things people say a this stage..so will not even try. Can only send you much sympathy and wishes that baby decides to come out soon.
did you get app for induction yet?
I will be 42wks on Thursday but as unsure of dates still trying to avoid induction..but prob after another few days and nights of this will be at completely different stage and up for anything!
Good luck and if you can let me know how things have progressed.

Jen99 · 08/01/2008 14:13

Finally got induced on Friday evening and after a long labour and a few complications had to have an emergency c section. At 12.04pm on 5/1/08 Harry Batt was born weighing 8lb 11oz. V tired and v sore but all worth it. Home from hospital last night and just trying to get the hand of breastfeeding! Good luck to anyone who is still waiting.
