What to wear during labour?

I'm just packing my hospital bag and wondering if the two huge t-shirt/dresses type things I bought were the right choice. Should I have bought the button-down-front ones instead so they can lay the baby directly on my skin straight after birth?

I don't think 3 hours is a record as my second one was even quicker! Some people need days, some people are very quick. I don't know if there is an average statistic of time taken. But it did take forever to actually start labour, with lots of waiting around for various people to do various bits. I didn't want to get into my labour clothes until I was in active labour.

I've packed my hospital bag and I'm taking a massive nightie for labour which I got for £5 from Matalan!
