Aromatherapy for labour

Hi all,

I've heard to be careful with essential oils in pregnancy and have only had lavender burning and a bit of frankinsense in my homemade facewash so far.

I'm 36 wks.

What is recommended for labour?

I'm going to (hopefully) be in a birth centre and they have diffusers and offer aromatherapy but I'm not sure if I have to take my own oils?

I have most but not sure which are good for this situation..!

Does anyone have any experience recommendations??

Thanks! 😊

I took some lavender and some tbh big else, I can’t remember now, and it never made it out of my bag..
Is this your first? I think some people find it useful, mainly if husband is trained at getting it organised alone, but it was last thing on my mind! But by all means have some because it might help you. But you do have to take your own- I also had a spray bottle for lavender.. Grin

Black pepper and clary sage are good for contractions, but I would check with your midwife (or ring the birthing centre) before you spend money

I had orange oil, hospital offered it whilst I was in labour. It was only in a burner or something, but I gave me something to think about! Fresh and reminded me of chocolate oranges - what's not to like.

They provided it, and they only used lavender. It didn't make me any calmer. Grin

Jasmine oil. I used it for pain relief. I put a few drops on my t-shirt. I found it worked well. Just make sure you get pure jasmine. As it's an expensive oil, a lot of them are diluted.

I also did up a massage oil with 3 drops clary sage, 2 drops mandarin, 1 drop rose, 2 drops yang yang in 10ml carrier. You could also burn them if you wanted too or sniff on a tissue etc.
