I'm 41+5 today and was at the hospital today getting monitored. all ok. they also did a sweep. and just now I started to get backache which seemed like a more definite sign than have felt for the last 2 weeks of (impatiently) waiting. All good, except.. I've now come down with some kind of flu! I've got a horrendous cough, have had it on and off for weeks but now got loads worse. I felt ropey yesterday and had a fever in the night, been resting most of the day and sleeping a bit, just took paracetamol which has made me feel human again but was feeling very rough an hour ago - shivering in bed. It's a cold/flu thing that has been going round pretty much the whole family and wouldn't be a major issue, but talk about bad timing!! I'm scared about going through labour feeling like crap - not sure how my body will cope.
any advice??

are you sure it isn't "just" labour

when i went into active labour i thought i was ill - very shakey and fluey

either way, just keep resting and sipping drinks as you can - a bath may help

poor you tho' ...

I think you'll be fine. I laboured with a chest infection with ds2, I was coughing loads and afterwards was the worst as it hurt inside to cough. I started to get pain when I was breathing and ended up on antibiotics a couple of weeks later as I got worse. I had shoulder pain and couldn't take deep breaths. I saw the gp 2 days before my labour but he didn't give me anything.

Labour took away all thoughts about my chest though! It wasn't until afterwards that I felt the cough/chest again.

It could be a symptom of Labour. Hope you are feeling better soon with a lovely new born to cuddle

Poor you - your not on your own - am 40+4 and have got a bad cough and cold - DP had it before it just before Christmas and seems to have given it to me. Went to see my GP today who prescribed antiboitics for the cough. She said it was just to be on the safe side - in case I needed a general anesthetic (although have had no complications to suggest this may be necessary) may be worth trying to see your GP tomorrow - if you don't go into labour tonight!

Although fed up with being overdue am hoping that I can hold out for another couple of days until I have some more energy. Like you I'm worried about how I will cope with labour while feeling so rough.

thanks all. I'm pretty sure it's flu or chest infection because the cough has been hanging around for ages and there's a lot of lurgy going round here. but just have to be positive and believe that I can deal with labour whenever it decides to happen! ironic though, I've been willing labour to start for so long and now just hoping it holds off for another couple of days!

ah I sympathise jen. that#s interesting about your GP. I thought they wouldn't give antibiotics at this stage. I think I will go to the GP tomorrow anyway and see what they say. I'm supposed to be induced on saturday if it doesn't happen before..
