How painful should BH be? Are these actually contractions?

Hello mnetters, I am feeling a bit stressed.
Am due 27th Dec and since about 0400 this morning, I have what my midwife believes is a "watery show" and have been experiencing (what feels like) contractions off and onn through the day. Currently, they have been
1918
1938
1945
1954
2003
2013 and
2022. They last about 20 seconds.

I have just had one and can sit at the laptop ok, but I really am unsure if these are just BH or whether my body is getting ready for the real thing.

My parents are at my house now, shall I ask them to stay just incase (to look after DD1)?

I've heard that being dehydrated can make BH seem worse - has anyone else heard this? I have not drunk all that much today and am sat here with a massive glass or squash in the hope this helps!

If you were me, how often would your contractions have to be and how long would they have to last before you considered going into hospital?

F&CK!!

Congratulations Gemy! How gorgeous!

Any news from aweinamanger? [now that's what I call ignoring contractions ]

Izzybel · 26/12/2007 16:33

Aww! Congratulations Gemy!!!! My dd is an Isabel too! Gorgeous name, and I'm sooo glad everything went well for you!

helenpettigrew · 26/12/2007 21:39

Congrats to Gemy! This is all very interesting as I've been in the early stages of labour (not established) since Sunday evening with irregular but frequent and excrutiatingly painful contractions. I'm 41 weeks today. The baby is, or certainly was, posterior lie so this may account for increased pain. We went in to hospital early on Christmas morning but as I wasn't in 'true' labour we went home. I had a show on saturday night. Has anyone experienced such a painful and lengthy latent stage? The pain feels like someone is trying to break my back open; it also stretches round my lower abdomen is felt in my bottom! I'm getting a bit desperate!!! Anyone? xxx

oooh Gemy, I'm in Stirling!

I'll look our for you in the local papers!

Congratulations on your wee precious baby!

suzi2 · 27/12/2007 14:25

Congratulations Gemy. I'm in Fife but MIL is in Stirling so we'll look out for you in the paper!

helen, I had a lot of slow/false labour with both of mine. What you're describing is certainly how my contractions felt when I was a bit further on. But that was because DS was OP. Do you know how your baby is lying? If you think it's OP then get on all fours . My false labour was almost as painful as the real thing - I didn't know when the false ended and real started and didn't know it was real until 6cm & 8cm dilated (and only because I got checked out!).

Gemy · 28/12/2007 20:28

Just a quick hello and to say thanks for all thw wishes of congratulations from you all

Unfortunatly, tassis and suzi it's unlikely we'll be in the papers - I thought that because we'd given consent to be in the paper and to be contacted then that's what would happen. But, aparently you have to be at the hospital when they arrive to have photo taken and we left hospital very early christmas morning. Still, I don't know if this means there may be a text only peice? Hope so, would be nice to be able to show Isabel!

We're all keeping well by the way, is there any word from Pecka and Awen yet??!!
