*TMI* Bloody show, blood quantity?

TMI warning for those who aren't into reading about the grisly stuff!

So I got my bloody show at 40+1 yesterday. It was a little 5 pence glob of browny discharge to begin with. An hour later that turned into a light pink smear on a pad.

This morning I've woken up with a half-pad thin covering of thin, brownish discharge. Is this normal? It seems like a lot?

Called the midwife yesterday for advice and she said wait for contractions (4 in 10, lasting 30 seconds). I don't think I've had any yet, just dull period pain on and off over night.

Any advice about bloody show quantity or identifying what a contraction feels like are very welcome! (FTM here) Also any anecdotal info about how long it was between your show and labour would be very much appreciated.
