Oh crap am scared ...

More than I expected - LO is confirmed breech at 39+3 weeks now - will try to turn her next Thur (consultantn not hopeful) but failing that elective section booked for next Fri will be 40+2 by then but xmas buggers the timing....have been warned if waters break or start contracting straight to labour ward for emergency section...
So now am shit scared that will go into labour over xmas and even more scared at thought of section...
This is no2 and had long labour with vacuum with no 1 - was hoping for nice easy labour with same day discharge this time
As medic I know that am in good hands and all will be fine but am terrified (and a bit disappointed) ...reassure me please

I found the actual c-section to be a strangely enjoyable experience - lots of very funny banter with the medical staff at my end of the table - it didn't hurt - and wasn't even uncomfortable. Recovered pretty quickly - was so desperate to be able to drive 3 weeks post op that I went to my gp to get the all clear! Just remeber to keep reminding those pesky midwifes for your pain meds when you are on the ward - and remember to take them yourself when you get back home cos it is the last thing on your mind with a new wee baby . And as I found out recently from another thread you can ask for skin to skin contact immediately if that is what you want. It will be fine!

you can do a c section birth plan, if you search on here, there is loads of suggestions for it

you don;t neccesarily have to have a long stay after an elective....

also, baby could turn, have you thought about a vaginal birth?

Discussed vaginal birth with consultant (who I have worked with very experienced and I trust)...he was not keen said big baby with bum wedged tight in pelvis ..thought I might end up with section in the end - so not really keen on putting us both at risk and ending up with section anyway ..certainly not the nice low risk quick second delivery I envisaged ...but as long as we are both ok and get home to DD I will be happy ...just nerves I guess and thought of rushing into hospital on xmas day....counting the sleeps now

However it turns out, it will be ok - might not be what you planned, but it will be ok as it will be the best outcome for you and your baby.

don't worry, doodle, because it will be all right. The fear is often greater second time around. But once things start happening with you, then the end is in sight. It's a worrying time - wishing you well

Macdoodle - A little reassurance here!! If it happens on Christmas Day, believe me it is not the end of the world. My Daughter was born on Christmas Day, and somehow she seems all the more special for it. We managed to get home to see my DS1 at 3pm and that year we had our Christmas lunch on Boxing Day, however, it still remains the best Christmas ever, and the best present I have ever had. Don't fret - I had an emergency section and it was absolutely lovely. Emergency sections are rarely crash sections. Normally it's a laid back convo with the anaesthesiologist and then they have the baby out fairly quick and you get to have a quick snuggle while they knit you back together.

BTW I was up and about within two hours and felt no pain except from the plaster rash on the wound! Ask for a Voltral suppository though, they are superb for the first six hours post partum.

I mean you get to have a quick snuggle with your baby obviously (not the anaesthesiologist)

Hope all goes well and try to relax. Maybe try to imagine that you are one of your patients and take the advice that you would give them in the same situation.
