Slow weight gain

Hi all!

My little girl is 7 weeks old and we've had an issue with her weight from birth. She was 8lb4oz when she was born and dropped to 7lb3 within the first week.

I was breastfeeding but really struggled in the first week as my milk didn't come in until day 7, due to the weight loss we were advised to top up with formula if needed. She has reflux and would sick up what looked like the whole feed, we ended up switching to kendermil full fat formula due to her weight still dropping. I'm so sad I didn't continue breastfeeding and expressing into bottles but that's another issue lol

We had her weighed yesterday and she's almost at the 9lb mark but it's taken a while to get there. Any advice for faster weight gain and reflux tips? She's also on say 4 of no poo so she's also on lactulose to help her bowels 😭

We had with this with my little boy and in the end he was diagnosed with CMPA at about 9 weeks. He went down from the 25th percentile to the 3rd and once we went dairy free, he sat on the 50th from about 6 months. Worth a try!

@ablisha I went dairy free when breastfeeding and unfortunately it didn't make a difference 😭

My little girl was born at only 4lb and she also struggling gaining weight due to awful reflux, she couldn’t keep my breast milk down so at a few weeks ago at 3 months I decided to put her on hipp anti reflux formula, it’s worked wonders! She’s still only 8lb and below the 0.4th centile same as birth but as long as she’s following the curve my HV isn’t worried.

Could you try the reflux milk? I can’t explain to you how much it’s helped us. No more sickness and I’m actually enjoying my baby again. I was devestated when I stopped BF and frustrated as I had milk but it just didn’t agree with her Sad

This sounds like my situation.
DD was born almost 2 weeks early as I was induced for ore-eclampsia. My milk was very slow to come in due to health complocations for me.
By day 5 she had kost about 8% of her body weight and faced hosputal admission. However due to me being unwell they suggested formula yop ups while I awaited my milk supply.
I would breastfeed from both sides then give a small bottle feed. After a week she had gained only 40grams. We perservered and after the next week only 20grams.
She had occasional reflux but that was it.
I had concerns about her latch but every midwife said it was perfect.
I kept being told to stop breastfeeding and just give formula because i was basically starving her.

Ive been concerned since birth about a tongue tie as DH has one. Not one healthcare professional listened to me or took my concerns seriously.
In the end i paid for a private midwife/lactation consultant to come out and sure enough she had a severe posterior tongue tie which got snipped.
Shes fed beautifully since and gained over 300grams in the week following the procedure.

We aee now crossing the bridge of silent reflux and GP has prescribed hypoallergenic milk and Gaviscon which is really helping.

May be worth considering a tongue tie if you havent already and maybe Gaviscon or similar to help with reflux?

So sorry that you've had a stressful start. I was going to suggest getting her checked for Tongue Tie as well.

I wouldn't automatically rule out CMPA either as it can take a while for them to settle after you've stopped eating it. Have a read of this article from Allergy UK abs see if she has any of the other symptoms, as well as constipation.
