I'm interested to hear your experience with breast enlargement surgery, and pregnancy, childbirth or breastfeeding. I"m 39 weeks, and am one year post op small BA (240cc sil unders) and just curious to hear from other women, who have opted for the surgery, for whatever reasons, about their experiences.

thanks

Hi Florabunny,

This is my experience only but I will share because I wish someone had shared with me. The consequence of my breast augmentation was that (apparently) some of my milk ducts were severed so I didn't produce enough milk. Baby lost a pound in the first three weeks and was dehydrated when I took her to A&E where they told me to supplement with formula. In several breastfeeding books, I've read that there are only two physiological reasons why a woman might not produce enough milk - one had to do with hormones or something and the other was breast surgery. If yours were inserted thru the nipple, your odds of having a problem increase.

Now, having said all that, I do suspect that had I had better advice and help with latching, we might have been fine. I mean, I was lactating like a frigging cow so I just don't get how I didn't have "enough" for her. It's quite possible I just didn't get enough IN her.

OH! Advice I read that I did not take - get a hospital grade pump. I was pumping day and night but with a little Medela electric and never managed more than 3 ounces when my friends were pumping bags full daily.

Hope this helps and hasn't come too late!
