Overdue and induction booked for 25th Dec

So I'm 40+1 with my first baby - saw my midwife today who attempted a sweep but my cervix was posterior and closed :(

I wanted to delay IOL for as long as safely recommended to allow the best chance to go into labour naturally which means it has been booked for Dec 25th Blush

I've had absolutely no signs of labour so far, no tightenings/braxton hicks, show, mucous plug, nothing. Midwife also thinks my baby is facing back to back!

I really wanted a natural labour in a pool/birthing centre but after my appointment today I feel like I'll probably just end up needing induced anyway so why delay it until Christmas!

I feel that if it wasn't Christmas I probably wouldn't be as worried about waiting another 11 days before considering IOL but I can't imagine having a birthday really close to Christmas is much fun.

AIBU to consider requesting an earlier induction to avoid baby being born at Christmas?

Bear in mind that it can take days for an induction to work. So even it earlier you may get stuck there over Christmas anyway I'm afraid

I thought the guidance now was to. Offer at 41 weeks though which is Monday 20th anyway

Anywhere between 41-42 weeks is the guidance for low-risk pregnancies.

Thing is, if you're induced on, say, the 23rd, you might give birth on the 25th! My induction took a few days.

Induce on the 25th and you'll likely give birth a couple of days later.

I’d leave it till the 26th.

PinkPlantCase · 15/12/2021 10:22

Also OP you have every chance of going into labour naturally before then!

Aww I was induced on 23 December so I know the feeling. Hospital on 25 was really sweet, they were trying so hard to make it Christmassy and even had Santa give the babies their first gifts.
If I did it again I'd bring nipple shields to the hospital as my baby couldn't latch to start with and of course all the shops were shut. Also bring AMAZING snacks in your bag.
