Sweep experiences

Hi everyone,
I had a sweep earlier today as I'm booked for an induction on Sunday! I'm 38+3 and they said I'm already 2cm dilated, does anyone have any experience with sweeps at a similar stage or at all really? I'm feeling a bit crampy and can't stop going to the toilet but not sure if that means much at this point🤣

I had a sweep at 37 weeks with ds. I had cramps on and off all day that day and then nothing. That was on a Monday.

Tuesday night, I was awake all night with cramps and finally went to the hospital early weds morning. I was only a couple of cm’s dilated. The midwife did another sweep and put me on a ward to see what would happen.

He was born at 10.37pm that evening

Hi @cutejeans I had one today too! 40+2 here though.

With my first, the second sweep resulted in loss of plug straight away and heavy cramps all day with proper labour starting early the next day.

From the one today I don’t seem to have had any luck!

Hello, I'm a FTM, 38+3 and had a sweep today too. It was very...uncomfortable!! To be blunt, it felt like the midwife was trying to screw in a lightbulb! I'm booked in for an induction on Saturday at 39 weeks due to a big baby. I'm hopeful that the sweep will get things moving without the pessary. I was 1cm dilated, with my cervix in a central position. So a bit of progress needed in the next few days.

cutejeans · 14/12/2021 14:16

@dorothygaleandtoto that's exactly the same as me! I'm booked for an induction on Sunday due to reduced movements and big baby, I don't think the sweep has done much in all honesty but I've got another one booked for Friday so fingers crossed! Hope everything goes well for you x

I only had a sweep at 40+5 and I wasn't dilated at all. Midwife said baby wasn't on its way any time soon but that was 5pm and dd was born 8am the next morning. So the sweep did something!

dorothygaleandtoto · 14/12/2021 14:24

Thanks @cutejeans I'm feeling exactly the same as I was pre-sweep, so far. Been a bit crampy and twingey for a few days now. In an ideal world I'll get to the hospital on Saturday and the baby will just pop out nice and predictably 😂 I can dream!! Best of luck for the next few days - I'll be watching this thread with interest to see how everyone has gone on.

I had 3 between 39-40 weeks, lost my plug after the first one and was got to 3cm by the last one before my waters went

I had a sweep (very uncomfortable) on the Saturday and didn't get anything other than some spotting. Monday lost my plug and got the pessary on the Tuesday. Had a quick, fast, and quite frankly hard beginning of labour. He was born the next day

Following..

My due date was Sunday. Started off with mild contractions but due to my previous labour being very fast I panicked and went to delivery suite to be assessed. I was 3cm, baby low, she gave me a sweep to try move things along. Which got me to 4cm but then contractions stopped. I was given the option to go home and rest and wait for things to start up again or have my waters broken.. I took the first option and I had another sweep before being discharged on Monday morning and I’m STILL waiting for baby to get a move on Shock contractions are painless but don’t really progress into anything! Seeing my community midwife tomorrow and if I’m 4cm I’m gunna ask to go in for waters broke.

Hoping your little baby is with you soon!!

LouiseS0510 · 17/12/2021 09:08

Went to see my community midwife yesterday, still 4cm n she gave me another sweep! I don’t understand why at 4cm I’m just being left to happen naturally! So fed up! And even spent last night crying cause they couldn’t book me in for induction until 40+12 and that Xmas Eve afternoon so looking like My 3 year old will have to sleep out on Xmas Eve n wake up at family members house. 3 sweeps now n still no baby. Sad

cutejeans · 17/12/2021 11:23

@LouiseS0510 Aww bless you, I'm uncomfortable enough at 39 weeks never mind overdue!! Going for my second sweep today x

Hope your sweep gets something happening! Xx

Lovethewinter · 18/12/2021 01:54

Unfortunately I had 4 sweeps and still had to have my waters broken at 42 weeks. Hope yours does something though!

cutejeans · 18/12/2021 12:10

Looks like both sweeps have been unsuccessful!! Booked in for an induction tomorrow so looks like that's how baby is coming🤣 x

@Lovethewinter I’ll be having my 4th one on Monday and starting to think they don’t do much. I went into labour the day after my 2nd sweep with my daughter but this little boy doesn’t seem to phased by anything we try to do. He’s happy to stay in my womb. Smile

good luck tomorrow @cutejeans and hope your induction goes well x

rom17 · 18/12/2021 12:24

@cutejeans good luck!

Lovethewinter · 18/12/2021 14:56

@LouiseS0510 the doctor at my 6 week check up actually said she thinks they don't do much! I reckon they might help things progress a bit but only when your baby is ready! Good luck everyone :)

LouiseS0510 · 18/12/2021 18:38

Update. Waters broke today so being induced tomorrow if contractions don’t start normally tonight Grin

rom17 · 19/12/2021 20:37

@LouiseS0510 how you getting on? Hope baba is here 😍

LouiseS0510 · 20/12/2021 03:08

Contractions never started so was induced and after 1.5hours on the drip we welcomed our little boy 🥰 all happened very fast and he’s perfect, 7lbs 6oz

Hope your induction is going well @cutejeans xx

rom17 · 20/12/2021 05:33
