Am i in labour or not

Hello, this morning I had a popping sensation and water gushed out so I assumed my waters had gone. When I went to get checked turns out it was just a 'bloody show' , it has been coming out all day and soaking through my pjs, also has blood in it. When I got checked the midwife gave me a sweep (I am 40+1) and said she could feel the baby's head. This was 7 hours ago, since then I have been having regular mild contractions every 10 minutes getting stronger but over the last hour they've been becoming further apart (20-30 min.) I'm still losing bloody mucus. Wondering if I'm even in labour at this point. So fed up.

My rule of thumb is if you have to ask, you’re not.
When I was in labour there was absolutely no question!

This happened to me on a Monday evening and I wasn't in established labour until the Thursday morning unfortunately 😬 hopefully things progress quicker for you but be prepared, I had no idea it could take that long!

I've been up all night with contractions every 10 mins pain getting stronger but not closer together.

With my 2nd I was 2 weeks overdue- up all night with contractions which died down and then stopped. 6 hours later they started up again and this time was proper labour. I am sure you will be on your way soon- good luck!

I’ve had three labours with various starts - my first was like this, and went on for several days. When my second was like this I decided to Get That Baby Out and just walked round and round the block. I’ve no idea if it would have helped with my first one, but it certainly did for that second one to help speed the contractions up. If you’re continuing to lose fluid though, I’d ring the unit again today for advice at some point. Any which way, it’s nearly time to see your baby - good luck.

OP, are you still getting soaked? That really does sound like your waters rather than your bloody show.

A show doesn’t soak through pads and PJ’s, I’d ring maternity back and go up and get checked over.

Hey! I gave birth on a Friday at 3am but had contractions from Weds night - they faded away and restarted with much more intensity on Thursday late morning.

I couldn’t do anything through the real contractions except stand absolutely still and hold onto something.

Are you definitely sure that’s not your waters slowly leaking out? I’d maybe mention the blood to a midwife if it keeps coming.
