Natural birth with 1st, will I go natural with 2nd?

Currently 39 weeks, from 36 weeks baby was measuring small so plan was to induce at 38 weeks, I got my head around it and was fully on board with the plan after much discussion, then last week they discharged me from consultant care back to community midwife’s as they was happy with babies weight gain. Now feeling a little deflated as unsure when baby will be here. I’m glad Im back to low risk pregnancy but just feeling fed up selfishly that I have to wait a little longer, if I need to be induced at 12 days it will be Christmas Eve, I have been reassured by my MW that they will book me in for 24th December but with a super excited 3 year old who literally talking about Christmas everyday I really hope it doesn’t come to induction on Christmas Eve!
So I’m just wondering how other peoples 2nd births went? I went into labour naturally at 41weeks with my daughter, what are peoples experience with their second labours? Did you also go naturally? Was your early, late, on time etc?

Xx

Hey, it's hard the waiting around can understand not wanting to have to wait till Christmas Eve. My first was 4 days early (though waters went 6 days early so ended up as an induction) and second was 6 days late but happened naturally, had a sweep in the morning was in labour that evening.
Fingers crossed for an early baby

Thanks for your reply @confuseddotcom1234

If I didn’t have an excited 3 year old I don’t think I’d be as bothered about a Christmas baby but I just don’t want to be in hospital Christmas Day morning but I suppose it isn’t the end of the world as long as we’re all healthy and safe.

My first Labour was at 36 weeks and quick (under an hour) although waters went 24 hours earlier. All ok, had Gestational diabetes that I managed well, baby was tiny but fine.

Second Labour was 12 months later, at 38+2 naturally and quick but longer at 2-2.5 hours. All ok, tiny but fine.

Third & fourth were induction for growth & size issues. Pessary didn’t work for either so had a drip for dc3 and sweep for Dc4 which did the job. Both were very quick once contractions started. Dc3 was an unpleasant experience and prolonged but that was ward & staffing issues. I wouldn’t be keen about a Christmas Eve induction so I hope things get going soon.

@EcoCustard good to know they was quick once induced too! My first child was a quick labour too so hopefully baby no2 follows suit even if induced! I was having cramps yesterday evening which didn’t develop into anything but hoping that something was happening. Back on my ball today and a walk if the weather holds off! X

The birth of my second was weirdly similar to the birth of my first, right down to the day of the week/time of day!

My first was spontaneous labour at 37 weeks exactly. My waters broke first and then contractions started, and labour was about 8 hours total.

My second was spontaneous labour on my due date - a few hours before I was due to be induced Grin Again, waters broke first, then co traction’s started. Labour was a little bit longer this time - nine or ten hours.

My second birth was a much better experience than my first. Good luck OP! DH and I are putting Xmas off til the 26th this year - my 5yo won’t know the difference and we have relatives arriving on the morning of the 25th so it works out better for us. Maybe you could do the same?

Thanks for your reply @FartnissEverbeans

I’ve come to terms with what will be will be, if he decides to make his appearance on Christmas Day then so be it. I’m sure having a baby brother/living dolly will be my daughters best Christmas present regardless of what day he comes! I just didn’t want her waking up at someone else’s house on Christmas Day morning if I’m still in labour and not having all her presents there to open but I’m sure we can rearrange Christmas like you say and she won’t know any different, and everyone’s 2nd baby birthing stories have given me abit of hope that I won’t be in labour for days! Best of luck OP! Everyone I know has had shorter second labours (apart from myself but there wasn’t a huge difference in terms of duration) so fingers crossed you’ll be the same. And merry Xmas Smile

I have had three children and they all came late and they all took their time in coming when I had them. Long labours and all 12 - 13 days late.
Baby one was a boy and weighed 7lbs 9 ounces
Baby two was a girl and weighed exactly the same
Baby three another boy and weighed 9lbs 4 ounces
Only difference was he came out after 6 pushes

Nearly thirty years ago and you never forget these things
.

Oh and I enjoyed the births too despite the pain. My sisters thought I was a weirdo as they hated every bit of being pregnant and giving birth, but its all a state of mind isn't it ?

My 1st was natural (24 yrs ago) 2nd was a pain the in arse literally (22 yrs ago). 2nd was 11 days late and I needs a c/section in the end. Also they dislocated my coccyx pulling her out.
