DH has bad cold - would hospital refuse to let him be birth partner?

Talk about great timing! I'm 38 weeks pregnant and DH has come down with a nasty cold. We are two weeks off the due date and there's nothing to suggest the baby will come early so all should be fine. But in case baby does decide to turn up while DH is still ill, does anyone know whether the hospital would refuse to let him stay with me as birth partner?

I wondered if they'd be unhappy about someone who wasn't well being around tiny newborns - and could understand why if that was the case - but it does mean I'd be on my own. I don't really have a Plan B (my family lives in South Africa so couldn't just haul my mom in to sub) so trying to think through what would happen if he couldn't be with me....

(In the meantime, have sent him to bed and am babying him something dreadful in the hope he gets better SOON!)

Well me and xp both had flue when I had Dd2 at 34 weeks. Labour ward were fine with it, but obviously scbu were not too keen so we were allowed to take dd2 to a seperate part of the uhnti to see her.

Sorry for crap typing, have flu now too so am not really with it.

Thanks for replying Nutcracker - glad to hear he's not automatically barred. We're still working on getting rid of the cold, although tending to Manflu is beginning to get rather tiresome.....!!

I hope you feel better soon, not much fun to be ill at this time of year.

we were fine also when dh had the "worst sore throat ever, honestly you don't know how bad it is" when I was in labour with dd2. The midwives weren't sympathetic when he asked for a bed to lie down on though
