Has anyone had the 3 rounds of tablets/ pessary and then not went into labour/ had waters broken/ still had a bishops score high enough to start the drip?

What happened?

Yep. Drip did fuck all. Had a section.

Stressymcstress · 03/12/2021 06:04

@bonzo77
The drip did fuck all? Jeez.

Did you get sent home before the section?

I’d imagine after a certain number of tries and time passing they’d recommend a c-section if labour doesn’t come but it’s not happened to me. I had 2 rounds. Maybe someone else will come with that experience. Best of luck.

I had a pessary, balloon then another pessary. Last pessary gave me regular contractions when i wasn't dilated enough (think i was only 1cm). Had my waters broken but ended up going for a section as my little boys heart rate kept dropping but not rising again quickly enough. When the epidural for the section didn't work, i ended up having to be put to sleep. I had gone in on the Saturday and had my little boy on the Tuesday morning.

bonzo77 · 03/12/2021 06:12

@Stressymcstress yep. Had 3 pessaries over about 24 hours. Then a drip. Then epidural “in case” 12 hours later waters broken by doctor. A bout 3 contractions but no progress. I had no sleep and was very anxious as I was being induced at 38+ 5 for reduced movements and low fluid and a friend had recently had a still born baby. I said I wanted the section. All was fine. I’ve had 2 more sections since.

RedRobin100 · 03/12/2021 06:15

I was induced at 42+2 - child was showing NO signs of coming

I had about 5 sweeps in all
Had the little balloon first rather than the hormone pessary, it was in for 🤔 ages . Well over 24 hrs if not more, can’t remember. Had to be pulled out by the midwife as hadn’t done anything. Think I was maybe 1cm but not favourable.

Had my waters broken then a around 5pm and walked and walked and walked, nothing. Zip.

They took me up to labour ward then and put me on the drip around 1/2am. Was on that for 12 hrs or more and got to maybe a (not great) 4 cm before baby started getting distressed - and I freaked out because I never wanted to be induced int he first place..

Said then I wanted a section as I had no faith in restarting the drip.
Had to wait for a good while for a theAtre ans during that time my contractions started up on their own, very intense! But baby got distressed and dropppsd heart rate again so
Ended up the rushed for an emergency section.

Disaster all round!

I’m pregnant again just now. Have said no way I’ll be induced again, never,
Interestingly, during my booking in appt the midwife had notes from my last birth - said that it turned out baby had been lying somewhat turned to the side rather than straight front on or even Back to back, so it’s head mustnt have Been in right position to properly engaging with my cervix to cause it to dilate..
I hadn’t known that before then.

RedRobin100 · 03/12/2021 06:19

Reading posts above I’ll add, I was contracting a lot on the drip - it was turned up high - but it obviously wasn’t being productive for other reasons, despite making my uterus contract.

Never again.

I’ll try for a VbAc if I can and it’s safe this time, but I’ll be booking in a section date - will be a lot more cautious for sure.
I was very against a medicalised birth/induction first time, but caved when there were NO signs of labour coming. Wish however in hindsight I’d just asked for a section

ApplePippa · 03/12/2021 06:28

I had three failed pessaries. I was 42+2 by that point, and after the third failure I had a c-section. (Glad I did, as DS was 9lb 6 as he was so overdue!). C-section was calm and straightforward.

Stressymcstress · 03/12/2021 06:36

Thanks everyone.

I’ve just had my second pessary, no change after my first. Worried that they won’t do anything. Although the midwives have said they don’t start the drip if the pessaries hasn’t done its job, no point as cervix wouldn’t be ready/ upsets baby etc.

Debating what I want to do if the 3 are unsuccessful…

Flowers for you OP - I've been where you are now.

I don't know the reasons why you are being induced, but one thing I would say is that if they do recommend a c-section its really not the end of the world. I was surprised at what a positive experience mine was - very different to the emergency c-section one of my friends has described.

Wishing you all the best!

MyOtherProfile · 03/12/2021 06:51

Similar to @bonzo77 and @RedRobin100
Drip did nothing, gave me contractions but no change on baby coming. Much more painful than normal contractions. Horribly long unproductive labour and ended up having a section while absolutely exhausted, having had no sleep for two days.

Never again. For my next child as soon as they mentioned induction I asked for a section. Having a section when you're not exhausted after a weekend of induced labour is a much better experience.

I know very few people where induction actually worked.

Alfixn · 03/12/2021 06:51

I haven't been induced but I have had an elective section and it was lovely! So don't be scared if it goes that direction OP.

Best of luck and just think - you'll get to meet your lovely baby soon!!

MyOtherProfile · 03/12/2021 06:51

Short answer - ask for a section now before you get to your wits end.

Stressymcstress · 03/12/2021 06:53

@ApplePippa
Thank you!

I’m 2 weeks over my due date now.

I know planned sections are meant to be a lot better than emergency, and I think I’m leaning towards asking for that….but it still makes me anxious!

IAmSantaOhYesIAm · 03/12/2021 06:59

Indication worked for me after 3 pessaries.
I was 41+1

Good luck op, it’s an anxious time but soon you’ll be meeting your baby and it will all be worth it!
