Requesting a sweep

Just curious of can you ask for an extra midwife appointment for a sweep?

I'm a FTM, 40 weeks today. I've got a midwife appointment this week, but my usual midwife has had to squeeze me into her lunch break instead of an actual appointment which I feel so bad for her for, and she won't be able to give me a sweep at this appointment. She said if I hadn't had baby by week 41 she'd give me a sweep at 41 week appointment and that in her experience sweeps worked best after 41 weeks. I was happy with this, until this weekend where I had to go into hospital due to absolutely awful migraine and found out I have raised blood pressure and they were starting to worry about pre eclampsia. I was initially advised about having an induction on Saturday, but then a different consultant said I could come back Sunday for monitoring instead. Sunday team didn't know why I was there and even though my blood pressure was higher than the day before they said it's fine and sent me home making me feel like I wasted their time.

I really want to avoid induction and I've heard people say they've often had many sweeps, but seems like I'm just going to be given the one at 41 weeks. I'm envisioning I'm probably going to be ending back in hospital with high blood pressure/migraine as still not feeling right. So I really would like to know I've tried a sweep/s first and know whether my cervix has soften and any dilation etc as this will direct my view an induction.

Thank you 😊

Hi,

My midwife told me yesterday that once you reach 40 weeks you can request a sweep anytime. I was advised to call the MLU anyday if I wanted one and they'd do it.
