planning a home birth, any advice?

im due with baby number3 in 6weeks and am thinking a home birth is more practical. any advice on what i need to make sure is in arms reach or just general advice from ladies who have experienced this would be great. i had my 2 daughters in hospital so have absolutly no idea what i am getting myself into!

first, you need to book for a homebirth, so you need to speak to your Midwife ASAP as you will need to be assessed and a homebirth kit dropped round at your house once you get to 38 weeks. if you do a search on here, there are loads of threads about homebirth, and what you need.

plastic sheeting/ shower curtain, old towels etc to protect floor or bed or sofa..a birth pool if you want to hire one, food and drink for you and DH and the midwives...

my midwife is coming to my home in 2 weeks and said she will go through it all with me then, i was just wondering if everyones home births went to plan or not! i will have a look at that link though thank you

homebirths are bloody fabulous. I just had one with my second and it was so, so, so much nicer than being in hospital.
MIne did go to plan, except running out of hot water for birth pool so I couldn't give birth in it.

not all areas give you a homebirth kit any more, ours doesn't, they bring all they need with them.
but I'd definitely second the shpwer curtain.
And put together a hospital bag as well, just in case you need to be transferred. If you do have baby at home it also means you'll have everything you need to hand and not be sending dp/dh upstairs for various things you forgot to bring down lol
