8 weeks postpartum - episiotomy not healing!!

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has been in a similar position to me because I’m at my wits end with this!!! I gave birth to DS 8 weeks ago, ended up with a ventouse and episiotomy.

I felt almost healed at 4 weeks and thought yay my healing is almost over…but by 6 weeks pp I started to get a bit of bleeding after the loo.

I plucked up the courage to have a proper look and I have a raised red lump about 1-2cm long just outside my vagina, sort of on the bum cheek if that makes sense.

I saw the GP at my 6 week check who said it looks like a bit of granulation but that it’s completely normal because the skin is constantly moist there and it should heal in a few weeks. She swabbed for infection, but that came back clear. I also took antibiotics as a precaution in case.

Two weeks on, I don’t see any improvement AT ALL. In fact it actually feels a bit worse :(

I’m feeling really impatient now and just want to feel like my normal self again.

I’m booked in to see the GP this week but not sure what she’s going to recommend next? I’m going to try to push for a gynae referral because I don’t think the GP can really do much at this point.

Any advice?

Hiya OP
I had this after an epi, you defo need to be back in the hospital system seeing a consultant/gynae. My stitches burst open after an infection 4 days pp so i was in a mess! But i was under the care of a consultant who saw me weekly at first, i had cream for the granulation and she was able to prescribe meds where needed. My gp said it was out of her area so all she did was get me back in the system at the hospital which was a help. Good luck!
