Period 4 weeks after ELCS?

I had an elective section 4 weeks ago and have started bleeding. Lochia was really light for about 2 weeks and then stopped, and didn't lose a lot of blood during the section.

I've started bleeding bright red blood today with clots which is very similar to what the start of my period is like. Could this be my period or is it too soon? Baby has been formula fed since birth

It’s breastfeeding that suppresses periods so if you’re not breastfeeding then it sounds like it is your period. There’s some info here: www.nhs.uk/common-health-questions/pregnancy/when-will-my-periods-start-again-after-pregnancy/

If your formula feeding then your period often comes back straight away. Breastfeeding suppress your period, so you can focus on the child you have, which evolutionarily would make them more likely to survive. But your body isn't evolved to know formula exists, so if your not feeding your body 'thinks' the baby has died, so the biological response is to try to get you to conceive again.

Be very careful with contraceptive, as lots of women are more fertile during this time, and a pregnancy this soon after a section would be dangerous.

I had gotten my period back 3 weeks after EMCS. I'm now fertile 5 weeks postpartum Shock

Thanks all! I really do need to look at contraception but my screaming child will make sure I go nowhere near my partner for a while 😂

My period came back really quick after my 1st c section and I fell pregnant when my son was 12 weeks 🤣 I have a 19 month old and 7 month old now

You can be fertile quickly after so best look into contraception if that's what you want
