Trying for vbac, failed balloon induction

I had a planned c-section for my last baby because I had placenta previa. I wanted a vbac this time but my induction options are limited because of the risk of uterine rupture.

I came into hospital yesterday to have a balloon induction which apparently has a 96% success rate. They’ve taken the balloon out after 25 hours and the midwife still can’t even reach my cervix. They are going to try to break my waters in the morning but the midwife thinks it’s unlikely.

Does anyone have any experience of this? I’m starting to wish I’d just gone for a c-section or at least had one pencilled in as a back up. I’m really missing DS and just want to go home.

Hi there! Sounds tough and sorry you're missing your DS. I don't have experience of a vbac but was induced in Feb, they tried a couple of times but couldn't insert the balloon. I remember being induced was a bit lonely so thinking of you. Anyways hope you get some rest tonight (if that's even possible in the ward!)

You can just ask for a cs now. You can request a cs at any point (well until the baby is too far down and is going to come out).
Ask to see a doctor and explain you’ve changed your mind

Thank you. I’ll get to find out what my options are in the morning. They may well recommend a CS anyway but I’ve no idea when that might be as they are so busy and there’s no urgent need, they just didn’t want me to go too far past 41 weeks.

Luckily the baby is still doing well and I’m not in any pain.

I’m glad you and the baby are ok, hope you get a good nights sleep and a cs if you want it tomorrow

Just checking in the update. I ended up having a c-section in the end.

It was all a bit of a disaster because they are so short staffed and there was delay after delay. Baby is here now and safe, hoping we can get home before too long and put this all behind us.

Thank you for the encouragement ☺️

Congratulations op! Well done.

So pleased for your update - it maybe wasn't how you had hoped it would be, but your baby is safely here and you are safe too.
Hope you are both home soon.
