Pelvic floor dysfunction and labour

Hi all

I'm expecting my first baby, due Feb next year. Currently struggling with a lot of anxiety around childbirth and the lasting impacts.

I've had an irritable bladder/moderate urge incontinence issues on and off for a few years now. Finally sought professional help about a year ago and have made huge gains in managing this. Now I'm terrified that a natural birth will potentially cause permanent damage as I'm already 'compromised'.

I really would prefer a natural birth, providing I can recover. But I have no idea what's right for me or what the best thing to do is. My midwife is pretty unhelpful...as is my GP.

Has anyone been in a similar position? Any advice? Any tips on where I can get advice?

I'd really welcome personal stories of pelvic floor problems and recovery if anyone is brave enough to share!! Blush

Thanks!!

Check out the pelvic partnership website. Great advice. Good luck. X

I'm 32 weeks pregnant with my first and wondering the same thing. Midwife told me to speak to my consultant, seeing her this week which will hopefully help. I have OAB syndrome and I'm concerned about how childbirth might affect it afterwards as its bad enough as it is.
