How "obstetrician led" is private VB delivery?

Just wondered if those who have paid to give birth to their children privately, to what extent is the birth actually led by the obstetrician as opposed to a midwife or someone else?

If it's private the obs should be there most of the time if not the whole time esp when you are actually delivering. My sister had her two privately. doctor was there whole time first time....second time he didn't get there in time cos her labour was 45 mins but he gave her a refund and still stitched her up etc

Most of the private hospitals I've looked at recently offered two packages - midwife led or obstetrician led. Priced accordingly of course.

My consultant was there for all of mine but the I did have a c section! Visited daily for the 5 days I was in and all examinations post delivery and at 2/4 and 6 weeks were carried out by him also.
