Labour/birth with a bad cold virus

Urghhh so I'm 39+1 today with DC2. With DC1 I went into labour the day before my due date and she was born on her due date. I currently have a really horrible cold virus that I've caught off DD and DH who both have been ill for a week now with little improvement.

I am terrified I might go in to labour in this state. I'm currently laying on the sofa whilst DD (3) watches copious amounts of TV as I'm too ill to do anything else right now.

Has anyone laboured/gave birth with a horrible cold and if so how did you get through it? My first labour and delivery was long and traumatic ending in instrumental delivery, so I've already been anxious. I was hoping for less intervention this time, using the pool etc. But I'm thinking I have to be realistic that if I go into labour in this state am probably best off trying to get an epidural as soon as poss so I can rest, because I don't see how I could labour for hours and then successfully push out a baby in this state!

Didn't want to read and run. I have no experience of this but hopefully you will start feeling better soon, drink plenty and rest as much as you are able to.

I have no experience but I'm currently 39+6 and day 4 of a crappy cold I've picked up off DS. I don't think I'm as bad as you sound but certainly don't fancy labouring like this, I'm just hoping nature isn't that cruel baby and will hold off until I'm a bit better!

I had a horrible cold during my first birth and I also had a stop start labour for FOUR DAYS that kept starting all night which meant I had no sleep! ...However once things properly started and I was in active labour it was very very quick and my cold seemed to disappear. I think the adrenaline blew it out of the water as I had lots of energy and a quick water birth with my husband squirting lucozade into my mouth! I felt dreadful for a week after but just a nasty head cold.

I think all the labour hormones / adrenaline will get you through it and second births are usually lots quicker even if you had interventions first time round. Good luck!

Yes- I also had a c section with a very bad cold and cough. They told me it happens all the time. It was a bit weird feeling like I needed to cough but not quite being able to but I honestly found that all the adrenaline in the moment of giving birth made me forget my cold. I’m sure you’ll be fine and maybe you’ve already given birth by the time you’re reading this :)
