Retained placenta

I gave birth to my DD 10 weeks ago, I had some minor cramps and alot of bleeding 10days post partum and was sent to a and e where they did an ultrasound and confirmed I had some retained placenta pieces ( it had raged membranes when it came out).

They gave me antibiotics and told me the pieces where quite small and sent me on my way which I thought was a bit odd but went with it.

At 8 weeks I started having unusual sensations in my abdomen but wouldn't call them painful so mentioned it during my 8 week check. I had an ultrasound done and today the receptionist at the doctors have rang to say they have confirmed there is a mass showing at the top of my uterus and will re order an ultrasound in 4 weeks time.

Is this right? I just don't understand if it still placenta why are they waiting??

I had retained placenta. I went to A&E (2 days after giving birth) and they operated on me that evening under GA.

My understanding is retained placenta is a sepsis risk and thus must be treated with urgency.
