the show / plug?

i know this sounds a relly sillly question but i have read about "the show / plug"????
anyone got any information?

didn't get mine until I got out the bath at the hospital whilst in established labour (the pool wasn't available)! about 5cm gone, so I'm not much use to you there!

Only ever saw it with ds3 (born 10 weeks ago) and after a sweep I had it coming out for about 5 days before the birth. It's like thickish mucus but is bloody. I thought it would be one small 'plug' that would come out and that would be it but there was loads of it - yuk!!

I had one the day before I went into labour - just a bit of gooey mucus in my pants!!

I had mine two hours before I gave birth to my ds. I thought the same as Gobbledigook - that it would be a small 'plug' but I thought I was bleeding to death and losing my baby!!! I'm a bit of a drama queen but there was loads of blood...

Glad I clicked onto this thread as i had no idea there was such a thing for me to be looking forward to, an unannounced 'plug' would probably have given me a heart attack...good to be warned!

The plug is a mucous thing that keeps your uterus "sealed" from the outside world during your pregnancy. The show is when it comes out, usually mixed with a bit of blood. Some people never notices it, others do. Some have the show right before birth, and some weeks before. IS the generally viewed as a sign of impeding birth, but as you can see be everybody else's message is not the best of signs....

Mine came out in small bits but I definitely noticed it and thought that was it. 'Show' was rather pink and not much of it.
