Is d&v virus triggering labour or is it false?

Caught my sons d&v virus and was up all night last night contracting every 10 mins. Felt painful contractions.

They eased off at 6am whilst I napped and have been irregular Brixton hicks most of the day. They're getting more painful again and now coming every 15 mins or so. They're painful enough to stop me talking and make my eyes water.

I haven't lost waters or had a show/lost plug- though, I didn't lose my waters until the pushing stage with ds1 (tough membranes apparently).

Anyone got any experience or advice? I'm obviously knackered from the d&v and my muscles are all very achey from the constant contracting and wretching. I have been bouncing and rolling hips on ball and trying to stay mobile but also having to lay on my side because I'm so tired. Moving doesn't seem to change them.

It can do. The type of muscle in the bowel and the uterus is similar and so anything that makes one contract can work on the other.

If your contracting, assume this could be it. Good luck!

I think it could be it as well! Smile

It could be triggering labour, sure that's the whole theory behind eating pineapple and hot curries (because both can give you diarrhoea and this triggers labour).

Thanks everyone. I've been having mildl contractions all evening but nothing strong and far from regular so it's not looking hopeful. Not a bad thing I guess as I'm exhausted but still, what a waste of pain!

Definitely not regular?

@DominicRaabsTravelAgent they're around every 15 mins (have been all day) but some come on at 12 mins and others not for 19 so that's as regular as it seems to be- they're radiating differently too, I get a couple of hours worth of them at the top of my bump and then spreading round my sides and then they'll change and I'll be getting them down lower where I imagine my ovaries are, also spreading round my sides ifswim.

I had this when I was pregnant with DS3 - caught a sickness bug from DS1 and being on all 4’s at 39 weeks pregnant throwing up into the shower because DS was throwing up into the toilet was a massive low point Blush vividly remember telling DH I thought I was in labour and crying because I couldn’t believe how awful it would be.

I wasn’t in labour, I was induced at 40+11.

I hope you feel better soon Flowers

I would actually say lie down, use a heat pack if you need to and try to rest and relax. It may well help the contractions to ease off which would be good. Then you can hopefully get some sleep in case everything does get started.

Anymore news @Senorasurf?

Senorasurf · 21/09/2021 17:14

Everything has gradually tailed off back to normal braxton hicks. I'm getting lightening crotch now and seem to be losing some of my plug so it was definitely a false start.
I'm glad now because I couldn't imagine giving birth the way I was feeling and with how exhausted I was Gringetting my strength back now and hopefully she'll come soon enough!
