Options after 2 3rd degree tears?!

Hi all,

I am due to see my consultant in 2 weeks. I am currently 21 weeks pregnant. During each of my first 2 births I had a 3rd degree tear which I recovered from quite well apart from a few little niggles here and there. Although, it was never explained to me why it happened, what could happen in future pregnancies.
I’ve been told my my midwife that I could opt for a C-Section. I’d never really thought about it until recently when I’ve started reading up on the complications of 3rd degree tears. I have been relatively lucky previously but don’t want to end up with incontinence issues or any further issues.
Any advice would be appreciated!

Sorry, no experience, but maybe way up pros and cons of both to help you decide?

From my own experience I have had one forceps delivery and one forceps delivery following failed efforts of vontousse delivery.

First time I tore but not badly. Second time I had an episiotomy, but also tore further into anal sphincter. I was told by the consultant that if I ever planned on a third I could not deliver naturally. Judging by the issues since I have no doubt he is 100% right but dont plan on testing the theory.

It all depends on how you have healed, what issues you have had and whether they think you would have a low chance of lasting problems if you delivered again.

You also need to be comfortable with your decision either way so push for whatever suits you but do take on board their advice.

Good Luck Grin
