Forceps during c section

Anyone have a c section where the consultants used forceps?? I had never heard of this but was told after my (emergency) section that they had to use forceps

Yes, i had forceps and it was quite a strong experience. My body was being lifted up off the table with the pull. Was not the nicest experience (especially after electing to have a C section to avoid forceps following a brutal vaginal forceps delivery with first).

I dont think its as uncommon during c section as you might imagine.

Was this recent for you, how are you feeling about it all?

Pinkflipflop85 · 04/08/2021 18:37

Yes. They were used in my second emergency section. My dd did not want to be born 🙄

BarberQueue · 04/08/2021 18:38

Yes I did. DD was firmly wedged in my birth canal and had to be pulled back up and then forceps used to get her out. She had a big bruise on her cheek for the first week.

Mlm17 · 04/08/2021 19:12

@Blackopal Relatively recent - a month or so ago! Feeling fine about it now. I was just so surprised as I felt no pulling or tugging whatsoever during the whole procedure even when they said I would. Was a bit out of it though due to not having slept for about 4 days prior which might explain it Grin

@Pinkflipflop85 same, dd was quite content where she was!

@Blackopal yes my dd had the same! Very much had the evidence of forceps

I think they used them with DC1, he had a forceps mark on his face, they didn't tell me they were using them though.

nutellamagnet · 04/08/2021 19:21

DS2 was pulled out with forceps during my ELCS. It didn't feel any different to me than DS1's EMCS without them. There was no difference in my recovery a d he had some marks on his face for the first few hours that were gone by the next day.

tigerbread20 · 07/08/2021 20:21

Yes with DD2, planned ELCS but surprise breech. She was fully stuck under my ribs

ajja2021 · 07/08/2021 20:27

Yeah, my DS was 10lb 1oz and stuck in my birth canal and they had to use forceps to love him, cut all of his head Sad they told me before they did it though, I just told them to do whatever they needed to do to get him out safely

WhatsTheTimeMrCat · 07/08/2021 20:40

Yep, they didn’t tell me but told DH afterwards. DS had a few marks. I was in a state of panic anyway and just felt as though I was being pushed through the table and the floor as it felt like I was being held down with huge force (I presume to enable them to get him out).

Babyg1995 · 07/08/2021 20:42

Yes dd was so high up still . They didn't tell me untill after which I was glad of .

elliejjtiny · 07/08/2021 20:47

They used them with dc4 who was very firmly wedged. I didn't feel any different at the time though.

TheresALight · 07/08/2021 20:49

I didn't have forceps, but I also felt no tugging or movement during the emergency csection with my first. I was quite surprised by the amount of 'rummaging' I felt during an elective for my second. So I don't think its unusual not to feel much during an emergency section, I think you've either had a lot of drugs by then or are running on adrenaline.

No, I tried but my next baby was born by emergency c-section.

MumToBe2002 · 26/05/2025 16:28

@elliejjtiny thanks for your reply and sorry to hear this! was it because of rupture related issues or fetal distress ?

elliejjtiny · 26/05/2025 16:42

My waters broke prematurely and I didn't go into labour. After 9 days I developed an infection so I was induced. The infection got worse, ds went into fetal distress and the induction wasn't working. 4 hours after the induction started my infection turned into sepsis and ds got more distressed and moved into a bit good position so I had a c-section.
