ELCS whilst ill

Have come down with 'something' and my c-sec is on Friday. I'm waiting for the test results now to see if it's Covid or 'just' the flu.
Has anyone had a section while coughing and sneezing? What was it like? I just can't believe the timing Confused

Same thing happened to me OP. I had ELCS Jan 2020 and had an awful cough for weeks leading up to it.

I told the consultant in the morning of the ELCS and they weren't too bothered. (Bear in mind this was pre-covid... only just)

But weirdly I barely coughed at all after the ELCS. Maybe all the pain meds sorted me out!

Hi! I had one today with a horrific cold.

All ok'd with hospital before and covid tested etc.

The biggest negative for me was being nil by mouth for 8 hours before the section. It aggravated my cold and made me feel dreadful, and I think made me very dehydrated for the procedure. I discussed it with the team and they gave me extra fluids by a drip which really helped.

A big positive is that I think all the drugs have completely obliterated my cold!! I feel healthier than I did before Grin.

Good luck! X

I don’t know if this will help or not but as you’re awaiting Covid results thought I would share. I didn’t have a cold or cold like symptoms but I had a ELCS in Jan whilst Covid positive. My only symptom was I was overly tired but being 39 weeks pregnant I didn’t think it was Covid just pregnant with a toddler tired. (Only tested as part of pre-op)

When I got my Covid result I was gutted but nothing really changed. DH was still allowed in with me at all times. The surgeon and medical team were dressed in full PPE so it was a little daunting at first but quickly became part of the ‘event’ IYSWIM and I had to wear a mask the whole time (although the midwife pulled it down and said ‘kiss your baby properly’)

I was also put into a private room on L&D, I wasn’t allowed to leave the room and had to buzz for everything, each time a midwife would come in dressed in full PPE and help me with whatever I needed.

Whilst I appreciate I was lucky to have no symptoms I have read a lot on here about birth partners etc. Not being allowed in or being left alone at all times and my experience couldn’t have been further from that.

I don’t know if that helps, but I was so scared I would have a terrible and lonely ELCS when I got the positive and it was actually really lovely, if some what like a sci-fi movie Confused

Fingers crossed you’ve just got a crappy cold it passes quickly!

Oh and baby was fine - baby had 3 Covid tests (we had to stay in for 5 nights for unrelated reasons) and all came back negative.

Yes I had horrendous sinusitis the week I was due. I honestly felt so ill and exhausted that I cried when they said I needed to be induced (waters leaking but no labour) as I was too exhausted to go into labour. The induction didn't work and.4 days later i had a c section. It all went fine. Good luck!

Yes had awful cough and throat infection. Couldn't sleep laying down j was coughing so much. Mentioned it to consultant prior to csection but it went ahead and I didn't cough during the operation. Did go to GP and got antibiotics a week later. Good luck !

Oh gosh thank you so much, you've all given me so much piece of mind!! I called my midwife because my pre assessment is tomorrow, and she told me not to come in until I've had my result back, have been close to tears as was imagining they'd just cancel the operation or something.
Thank you!
