mostly at night. cramp-like over lower stomach and top of legs, doesn't really feel like braxton hicks or contractions. this is my 2nd so I should really know what's going on, but just getting a bit worried because I've got 3 more days to work and havn't finished my handover, and dh has an exam coming up! So do you think this is the beginning of labour or just warming up and could still have weeks to go??? With DS1 I had a sort of prelabour for days and then short full on labour.

It sounds to me like things are starting to happen. But it could still be days or even weeks yet.

I would hurry up with your handover though just in case.

Hopefully, someone else will come along soon and tell you exactly what it is

Good luck
xx

I've been having these for a while now (am 40+6 grr), midwife says it's normal..

Annoying though!

i had these starting at 36 +4 on and off for a week. Midwife examined me at 37+4 and I was alreday 5cm dilated. Labour started that night and baby born 4 hours later. So don't assume it's just Braxton Hicks...

Call your midwife/labour unit at hospital for advice - do you really want to risk going into labour during the middle of a handover? (Sorry to sound bossy!)

I'm stopping work at 31 weeks (possibly 34 if difficulty recruiting a replacement) cos I'm worried about going into labour early and not having the nursery ready / having enough rest! (Guess what, this is my first pregnancy - so i think i may be over-cautious ).

thanks all. sounds like the jury's out then! I suppose that it means things are warming up but could still be a slow process. part of me wants to get it all started, and another part could really do with a week or 2 of chilling and not thinking about work before dd arrives.
and the work thing shouldn't really be my priority should it, if it all kicks off this week then someone else will just have to deal with the handover!

Mmm, agree with you about work not being a priority but it's hard not to continue being conscientious.

Asset - I'm 40 weeks today with my first. I've been having niggles of the type you describe for the last three weeks.

Good luck with everything
