Labour before elective C section

Has anyone gone into labour or their waters break before the day of their elective section? What happened when you went to the hospital. I've been told a few different things by midwives, doctors, friends etc. And I'm really worried that they will make me try to deliver naturally Confused

My first birth went horribly wrong and ended in a very dramatic emergency c section so my anxiety is really building up about even trying to do it naturally again. I was praying that they rush you off for the section if your labour does start.

C section was booked for the Monday and I went into labour on the Saturday morning.

Called the labour ward, went in as advised and was prepped for my "emergency" elective. Consultant had asked when booking my date if I went into labour beforehand if i would attempt a natural delivery and he was told in no uncertain terms that I wouldn't. I've made the same clear this time round too.

This happened to me with my second, and just went in and had an emergency c section instead. They did ask if I wanted to try naturally as it was progressing well, but I said no, and that was it. Good luck op!

I was booked in for a section on the Monday. I went into natural labour in the early hours of the Thursday prior. I went into hospital, they just checked my notes about the planned section and did it. The consultant notes were very clear though, maybe that's worth checking on yours.

In my head they whisk you down a corridor at a million miles an hour to do the section straight away 😂 that’s what I’m telling myself anyway. 37 weeks and due to have one at 39 and a half! My friend needed one (different reasons to me) but they did hers when she wasn’t far off delivering naturally so that reassured me a bit. The consultant has made a few comments about ‘if you’re in early labour we can do the section’. Even if I’m not, il be screaming the place down begging them to take me for one 🙈 Just keeping an eye out for every possible sign something’s happening! Good luck, hope we both make it

Hello, Im a midwife.

Unless we could literally see the head coming already, we’d just do an emergency section. If we can see the head it’s unfortunately a bit late, but that’s very very rare!

You might have to wait in labour for a space to come up as they have to prioritise emergency but you will still get a section.

My doctor asked me in advance what I wanted to do in that scenario. I said I wanted to try a VBAC. Walked literally miles and miles in that last week trying to get things moving but no luck!

If it doesn’t get raised I would flag it yourself at one of your appointments so it goes in your notes.

@IDontDrinkTea this is reassuring 😅

I had an EMCS with DS1. With DS2 I was asked by a consultant when planning the ELCS what I wanted to do if I went into labour. My answer was written down in my notes.

In the end nothing happened and I just went in and had the planned section as booked.
