Any doulas in Birmingham?

Hello all,

I am trying to find a doula/lady that knows a lot about the whole baby business in Birmingham (I am on the south side).

First baby, new to the area, no friends or family to help (even mum is my stepmum and she hasnt had any children either), partner works overseas, and no idea what to expect.

Can anyone help?

Thanks
Shelly

Shelley,

I'm near Brum (Solihull) and am happy to be a friend. I'll check a couple of websites for you. Let me know whereish you are..there's lots of nice people around here and I'm in the know for baby groups etc ('cos I run one!). Congratulations on your coming babe!

Found one, although she's advertising as post-natal. Look on www.netmums and check out the childcare options. Hope that helps.

I had my baby 6 weeks ago at the Birmingham Womens Hospital and I had a Doula from Birmingham called Lorna Philips. She was amazing and I genuinely believe she helped me get the dream birth I wanted naturally. I was a VBAC and I was very nervous. I googled Birmingham Doulas and Lorna Philips name came up. She has very good reviews. She has her own web site too. Lorna helped get me totally prepared in our meetings before my due date and gave me lots of advice and helpful information. She helped me put the birth plan together which I had been worried about but she made me feel empowered. She is instantly likeable and put me at ease. On the day of the birth she was kind, reassuring, encouraging and a fantastic emotional and practical support. She showed me so much care and attention whilst the midwife was busily doing her job with the delivery. She was at my bedside at every step to get me through. I also appreciate the help she gave me in the days after the birth which was priceless. She has a very gentle and calm presence about her and I knew from the start I made the right choice in having a Doula and specifically in choosing Lorna. I truly cannot say enough good things about her and if I ever have any more children, I would definitely want Lorna to be my Doula again. She comes highly recommended and I will never forget how she helped me. Such a lovely lady.
