How long did yours last? I'm on my 22 day and the bleeding has started again. It almost finished at first, was almost invisible brown. And now here we go again. Thick and red. It is def not a period. Should I be worried?

Mine lasted 4 weeks. I think 3-4 weeks is average and it goes brown then stops. Your period can start 5-6 weeks after birth and a lot of women in my due date group have had periods start around now despite EBF so it could be a period.

You could always ring your GP just to be sure if you're worried

Pretty much bang on a month for me

20viona · 23/06/2021 07:56

Not long for me about a week I think. I had a retainer placenta though and had most of my insides ripped out by hand so don't know if that made a difference 🤣

Ostryga · 23/06/2021 07:58

It definitely could be your period. I was EBF and mine started bang on 4 weeks after birth. Most unhappy!

If you’re feeling unwell, have a temp, or there is a smell you need to get in touch with your GP as you may have retained product and an infection.

Bluntness100 · 23/06/2021 08:00

Are you passing clots op and if so how large?

If no large clots id assume period to be honest. I passed clots th size of tennis balls, I had retained placenta, but it was a few days, not a month after, the bleeding did go on for the next three weeks though.

Sprogonthetyne · 23/06/2021 08:26

With my first it went on for ages, maybe 4-5 weeks. With my second it was less then a week. Both were sections so might have been linked to how much was removed/ left during surgery?

pinkgin85 · 23/06/2021 08:52

The second time around it went on and off for almost 8 weeks. I was worried too, but I noticed it would start if I had a particularly busy day it would start again so just try and rest and let your body heal.

HopefulB · 24/06/2021 06:55

Interesting re duration. I’m due in August, how heavy was the bleeding for people?
Are we talking changing a maternity pad every couple of hours?

If you have retained placenta are you back to hospital for a hysteroscopy? (I experienced this after a miscarriage)

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 24/06/2021 06:57

It was just showing down at 6 weeks then my period started , that lasted 6 weeks. 12 weeks of bleeding for me !

NavyBerry · 24/06/2021 09:39

Thank you everyone! So it is day 24 for me. I only use everyday pads so it is not much blood. It is with tiny clots and usually starts after breastfeeding. I didn't have my period for over a year with DD1 so I think prolactin would work in the same way for me this time. It is just strange that it was almost gone and then started again. I will wait a bit more and then call my gp if it doesn't stop. Luckily no pain, smell or itching.

@HopefulB no follow up at all! It came out torn in many pieces.
