Are disposable pants a must have? I have bought big pants and maternity pads will that be enough or should I go out and get some disposable ones?

I did fine with maternity pads in big cotton knickers. I didn't use the disposable pants because I read someone say that the incontinence ones were irritating on a wounded undercarriage...

Probably should mention it’s a section I am having.

I’m not looking forward to the bleeding afterwards at all it’s the thing playing on my mind most, you read horror stories of how bad it can be and I’m worried with being numb I won’t be able to tend to it. I know I probably have worse things to worry about Grin

I got a cheap pack of high waist granny pants from primark, and just throw them out if I leaked over maternity pad. I think with incontinence pants the waistband would be right over the wound is.

Oh, and they put an absorbent sheet under you while your legs are numb, then if there's a leak, they subtly change the bedding when you go for a shower, once spinal wears off.

What kind of bleeding? Do you mean vaginal? You will likely be up for a shower within 12 hours so it’s not long you’ll need to worry about it, the people who help are incredibly kind and are used to dealing with this kind of thing. From memory I think they have to check your pad in the first few hours. Try not to read ‘horror stories’ if you can. Is there an underlying issue why you’re so worried about this aspect? If there is you should definitely tell them at your next appointment and they’ll do everything they can to respect your wishes, even if it’s just running through what you can expect.

I have had 2 nvds and 1 section and no excessive bleeding. I can't remember it being an issue at all and certainly managed with pads and big knickers.

No no underlying issues just my first time and not sure what to expect from it. I guess they see it day in day out, hopefully it’s not too bad and I can manage with the pads no problem. Good to hear about the sheet they put under you I’d hate to think I was making a mess, I guess I’m quite private like that but again it’s something they see all the time.
