Natural/ gentle c section? Anyone had one?

Hi everyone, just as the title says really. I had a meeting at my hospital and a natural/ gentle c section was mentioned as something they could offer me. With my past traumatic birth I think it could be quite healing.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of having one? What was done differently to a normal CS?

Not sure if it was officially natural/gentle but when I had dd by planned c section (over 12 years ago!) we were allowed to have our own music playing and they dropped the sheet down a bit as soon as she was out and dimmed the lights at the head end of the room and I had skin to skin with her whilst they removed the placenta and sewed me up. It was lovely actually and she had her first breast feed whilst I was still in the recovery room! All very calm. NHS hospital.

I think it depends what you want. I thought it sounded good but then I watched a video and the woman wanted to watch the whole thing so the sheet was completely lowered and they very slowly pulled baby out and she discovered the sex for herself. Personally I don’t want to see any of the blood etc going on down there so I’m going to have the music and calm atmosphere but I don’t want the sheet lowered until he’s out and I don’t want to see the actual operation at all

Yes I had one for my second birth after emcs with my first. Sheet was lowered just before he was being taken out, so we got to see if it was a boy or girl ourselves, had delayed cord clamping, he was put on my chest while I was stitched up.

I had one 3 months ago, had my own music, lighting dimmed, baby's head was delivered and then everyone paused to allow her to wiggle out, watched the birth with a mirror and had delayed cord clamping and immediate skin to skin, was an incredible experience I would recommend! Happy to answer any questions about it Smile

My c section was quite calm. Everyone chatted, I didn’t feel any of the pushing or pulling that people usually mention, was very relaxed (other than the initial ‘I’m having a baby’ nerves.

Magik01 · 29/05/2021 22:18

@iaminevitable that sounds incredible! Did you have to fight to get any of that or were your hospital quite happy to do it? Did the baby actually wriggle free themselves?! Amazing

I just had my second c section. This one was planned (first was emergency premature baby, horrendous experience) this one was amazing though. It happened so calmly, they pulled the sheet down I got to see him coming out. Soon as he was cleaned up I had him on me for the entire time they was sewing me back up. It was actually really lovely (I did get an infection on the wound after tho, which I was told I caught at the hospital! That was horrendous recovery)
