Births following a previous overdue birth

Hi,
has anyone gone 2 weeks overdue for their first pregnancy to go on and have an early/on-time birth afterwards?
I was induced at 41+5 resulting in an EMCS at 42. I'm reluctant to go that far overdue this time but also reluctant to book an early ELCS. In my head I'd like to discuss an ELCS at 41 weeks max and hope that I have a successful VBAC before then.
Thanks x

Not me, but my sister was 2 weeks overdue with her 1st and near due date for 2nd.
Both were spontaneous delivery.
She had a c section with her 3rd which was planned and found that birth the best out of the 3 as she was in control.
Congratulations and I hope it all goes well.

By “my dates” my first was two weeks overdue, and my next two were on due dates. By official dates I was +6, +2, +1, but everyone who saw my first thought he was more overdue than that, and my placenta was on its way out.

NameChange30 · 14/04/2021 15:08

Both my DC were born by SVD (spontaneous vaginal delivery)
DC1 41+4
DC2 40+1

I was expecting DC2 to be later so I was quite surprised and was in denial about being in labour for a while 🤦🏻‍♀️😆

I looked it up and I think on average second babies arrive 5 days earlier than first babies, although obviously that's assuming no intervention with the first one - you have no way of knowing when your first would have been born without the induction and c section.

It does seem sensible to book an ELCS at 41 weeks and hope for spontaneous labour before that.

I went two weeks overdue with my first, he was an emergency c-section after a long labour.

DS2 went overdue for nearly 2 weeks, they were encouraging me to have another C-section but I got a second opinion after finding out that my consultant didn't even bother to look at the notes from my previous birth. The second consultant was fine for me to go over that long.

When DS2 did finally arrive, he arrived within two hours of the first contraction! I did need forceps right at the end but the recovery was so much easier than the EMCS.

It was a very frustrating wait though, time goes very slowly when you're overdue again! Grin

Forgot to say I did have a c-section booked at 41 weeks but I cancelled it. Even if it is booked, you still have the right to choose whether you want to go ahead with it.

Aprilshowersandhail · 14/04/2021 15:29

10 days over with my first. All the rest 2 days before the due date.

mimofboy2 · 14/04/2021 15:53

My brother was 2 weeks late as first baby ended up as a c section and I was 2 days early forceps. My first was 4 days early and second was 6 days late both boys, so I'm not sure if there is any rhyme or reason.

Kiki275 · 14/04/2021 16:27

Thanks everyone. Was just weighing up my chances of having the longed for no intervention VBAC.
I had a 22 wk since DS hence why I'm reluctant to have another induction and I didn't enjoy my EMCS recovery either, especially as DS was in SCBU.
I do appreciate it's all dependent on what baby wants to do so very open minded. Will see what the consultant suggests x

Went to 42w (not induced) with DC1
DC2 was EDD + 2, and DC3 was EDD + 4.

Ava50x · 15/04/2021 17:30

Not me, but my friend's first was 10 days late, second was 2 weeks early. There really is no knowing!

My first 2 were 1 week early, 3rd one day overdue.

Best of luck, hope you get the birth you want!

Foxglovesandlilacs · 15/04/2021 17:33

I’ve had 8 babies, my first was 2 weeks overdue, so was my 3rd, 4th and 6th. My first was the only one I was induced with but it was still a straightforward vaginal birth.

Second baby was actually 2 weeks early so felt a lot earlier than the first!

Foxglovesandlilacs · 15/04/2021 17:34

If you want a Vbac then you can have a vbac regardless of if you go overdue or not. You can be monitored instead of being induced.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 15/04/2021 17:38

I have 8 dc. All of them were late, only number 6 was induced, although another 2 (3 and 7) were just a day away from induction when I went into labour

RandomMess · 15/04/2021 18:22

Mine were all overdue and had to be evicted, managed to have an unassisted delivery with all 4 though. By the last I just used 42 weeks as the date I would give birth and had my induction booked in at 16 weeks!

Aprilshowersandhail · 15/04/2021 18:55

Number 11 was born at 35 weeks.
A ndn of mine from years ago had 7 dc and 7 inductions!

Kiki275 · 15/04/2021 21:27

Thank you everyone, I'm still clueless as to what I want but will discuss at 36wks with the consultant. Who knows, baby could be breach and decide for me.

@Foxglovesandlilacs going overdue bothers me more than being induced. After my loss, I don't like the risk.

I just wish I can guarantee a nice, spontaneous on due date birth with no complications. Not asking a lot really 😂

Ds1 42 (induced)
Ds2 42(SVD)
Dd1 39 + 5 (SVD)
