Something dropped out. 12 weeks pp

I'm 12 weeks pp (c section) and I've been bleeding this entire time. I had my period about 3 weeks ago and then bright blood appeared. I then started to get cramps and just assumed things were taking awhile to get back to normal.

BUT I'm freaking out right now as something a bit smaller than a golf ball has just dropped out of me. It was grey and can only be described as sack like? I'm in absolute shock and going to phone health visitor tomorrow but just wondering if anyone has been through something similar. I feel so sick after witnessing that!

Could it be a decidual cast?

daffodilsandprimroses · 11/04/2021 21:17

I hope all is well OP. I don’t wish to worry you but that doesn’t sound quite right to me and I think I’d give 111 a ring, if only to put your mind at rest.

I had a c section 16 weeks ago and I haven’t bled since baby was about 6weeks old Flowers so it does sound like something isn’t quite right to me. But I am not a medical professional.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 11/04/2021 21:17

I'm not sure if it has anything to do with having a baby. I've had 3 and never had one. Think they can happen at anytime but they're quite common apparently.

PurpleRainDancer · 11/04/2021 21:24

Could it be an infection OP? Can you keep the tissue that fell out to show a Dr. I would call 111 for advice. Hope you’re feeling better soon.

Dsteele · 11/04/2021 21:28

@PurpleRainDancer I was on the toilet at the time and it dropped in there :(

The only reason why I haven't contacted docs sooner is because the bleeding hasn't been heavy and the cramps only lasted a few days and only showed up at night. So weird!

This happened to me a few days after birth by it was sponges so I presume it was a bit of placenta.

Theunamedcat · 11/04/2021 21:31

I had a bit of umbilical cord drop out a few weeks after I had a baby (I had retained placenta) i stopped bleeding shortly after everything was fine

Dsteele · 11/04/2021 21:39

@Blueskytoday06 I have a feeling its a bit of placenta but it's worrying that I'm 12 weeks pp and only now it's come out?

Any other symptoms?
Temperature?
Chills?
Sweats?
Basically any signs of infection?
You are pretty vulnerable right now. I'd call 111 and go through the symptoms with them. You can still speak to your hv/GP tomorrow but for now, make the call and see what they say.
Hope all is OK.

Branleuse · 11/04/2021 21:44

Decidual cast probably. Did you keep it?

Dsteele · 11/04/2021 21:49

@DonLewis noo I've had no other signs of infection

OP posts:
Dsteele · 11/04/2021 21:50

@Branleuse I've googled pictures of that and it doesn't look like it. I couldn't keep it because it was already down the toilet

I think you should ring 111 now, it’s probably nothing and ringing will give you peace of mind. If it turned out to be something that needs dealing with/checking it’s better to do it sooner rather than waiting for it to potentially make you feel unwell through infection or something.

Bonnieweejeaniemccall · 11/04/2021 21:57

When I was 12 weeks pp, a big bit of something came out of me aswell, I was convinced it was a piece of placenta as the colour wasnt like a clot. I phoned the doctors and she referred me for a scan. The next day however my bleeding completely stopped and I was fine so just cancelled the referral. Weird though, it gave me a fright!

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 11/04/2021 21:58

Hi OP I had this about ?6 ?7 weeks after my last birth. Cramps like afterpains (after labour) and then a chunk of greyish tissue and some blood.

Assumed it was an old bit of placenta, nothing else ever happened and was all fine.

stealthbanana · 11/04/2021 21:59

This happened to me OP, I think it was 8wks PP after a CS. I went and got it checked out and it was a (weirdly coloured, dried out) clot. It totally freaked me out, remember feeling something sort of clunk out and then hit the water with a splash. Def go and get it checked out for peace of mind.

Dsteele · 11/04/2021 22:06

@Bonnieweejeaniemccall yeah same here with the colour definitely not being the typical clot. It's definitely frightened me. So crazy how much we go through haha

@JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff did your bleeding stop afterwards?

OP posts:
Dsteele · 11/04/2021 22:09

@stealthbanana exactly what happened to me! It's what made me have a second look down the toilet and couldn't believe it

So I phoned my health visitor this morning who told me to make an appointment with my GP. Due to covid, they are only taking phone bookings, so I had a chat with a doctor on the phone who said it seems like I was contracting to get rid of the "leftover product" which is apparently common with C-Sections. He has told me if the bleeding continues within the next few days he will then arrange for me to have a scan but until them I just have to wait and see if the bleeding clears...

Hi OP yes bleeding stopped but think there was a bit of red blood for a little afterwards. Was 3y ago though!
