Hi everyone, I’ve decided to go for an epidural. I was just wondering if anyone who has had a baby in the last year can answer this?

if you had the epidural, how long after giving birth were you able to home?

Hi, I had an epidural and I went home about 20 hours later.
But this was partly because my waters went more than 24 hours before giving birth so checked for infection.

So I'd imagine it would be less for a normal

All depends how well your delivery goes.
But I could walk fully, full feeling in legs after 4 hours giving birth.
So providing your birth goes well, if image they'd probably let you out a lot earlier

I had an epidural 19 hours into labour and gave birth another 14 hours after that! I went home 5 days after I gave birth as I had an emcs that went wrong. This was not down to the epidural.

Prepare for the unexpected and plans not to go to plan! Also, if you need the epidural for pain relief then have it. No one wins an award for giving birth without pain relief!

Having the epidural was never part of the reasons I was in longer! DS1 undiagnosed StrepB so he got ill and we spent a week in the hospital. Before they realised he was a poorly they were all for discharging me same day

DS2 again strepB so had antibiotics in labour and had to stay in 24 hrs for observation and same for dd

Dc2 was born at 8.30amish and we were home by tea time

Dc4 was born at 6am and we were home by lunch time.

Both epidurals and home within hours. I was up and walking quite soon afterwards, had a wee, had a shower, waited to be discharged.

I also had an epidural with DC1, but stayed in 7 days, not particularly related to the epidural though.

I had an epidural around 1am and dd2 was born at 3am. I was ready to go home by early afternoon but could have gone earlier, I just wanted some support for bf.

Had epidural (then spinal) in June 2020: ended up with hormone drip, episiotomy and forceps (first baby).

Baby born at 12:35 Tuesday and I left hospital 14:00 Wednesday, it was hotter than the surface of the sun in there so I would have left after the 12 hour monitoring of DC but had to wait for photos of his black eye.

3 days, but I had also had a c-section and a post-partum haemorrhage.
