Unsuccessful sweep

Hi All! I’m 39+5, and had a stretch and sweep today - they couldn’t do the proper sweep as cervix not open at all. Painful!

Apart from it just being a bit more sore down there, I haven't had any symptoms from it, no bleeding or increased discharge.
Nothing.
Is there still a chance that it might've started things off..? Might I go into labour in the night..?

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Or should I give up hope that baby is coming soon and resign myself to perhaps two more weeks of pregnancy discomfort!
I'm booked in for another sweep in a weeks time but pretty sceptical about it all given how it wasn't possible this time.

I had a sweep at 41+3 with DS2. The midwife said it had failed because my cervix was so tightly closed she wouldn't have even thought I was pregnant.

I went into labour that night, and gave birth less than 2 hours later.

Good luck!

I had 2 sweeps with my second baby, one at 38 weeks and one at 40. They did nothing. I had a few cramps which is normal and didn't go into labour until 42 weeks when I was induced.

The sweep success rate isn't very high.
Something like 26% I think

I think a sweep only speeds things up if you are at the stage of going into labour anyway.

Same. I had a sweep at 39 weeks 4,5,6 and was told the same. Then started an induction at 40 weeks and labour began just a few hours after the pessary went in. It was a really fast labour too and I needed an epidural to try and slow things down.
