ELCS at 40 weeks

Has anyone asked to have their ELCS delayed until 40 weeks or agreed to wait till due date before booking it? I'm set on my decision to have an ELCS and it's been indicated that this will be booked at 39 weeks. I understand the reasons for this but I feel it's unlikely that I will labour spontaneously before my due date based on previous experience, and would prefer to allow baby to have a little more time to grow.

Would it be unreasonable to ask that either I can wait until my due date and then proceed with booking or that it can just be agreed now to book the section for 40 weeks?

For info if I wanted to try the vbac they would wait till 41 weeks before booking.

My elective is booked in for 39+6. Like you, I want to go as close to term as possible. I think as long as there is no medical reason, it's fine. They just made it abundantly clear that I may run the risk of going into spontaneous labour, but I was happy with that and they said ok!

I'd book now for 40 weeks, then you know it's approved and should have less trouble getting one if you do go into labour earlier.

Thanks both, I'd really like to wait till as close to my due date as possible. I have all the consent sorted from the consultant and they said that any changes can just be directed through my midwife with no need to see them again so I'll raise it at my next appointment. Hopefully it won't be a problem. I know there is a risk that I would go into labour before the date but in that case I expect they would give me the option of continuing with the labour or an emergency section and I'm willing to accept that

I went for a scan on my due date,I just couldn’t decided whether to try for a Vbac or ELCS.

I lost my nerve and it was booked in for 41 weeks. However,I went into labour at 40+3 so went to hospital and gave VBAC a go 🤣.
Ended up with another EMCS!

So.... you could do what I did!
