Membrane sweep before EDD, anyone had one?

I had an appt with my consultant yesterday as clinic on Mondays & next week I'd be 2 days over so wanted to see me just before term as I'm hoping for VBAC to discuss if I still felt the same & what options he felt were best. Anyway, saw registrar as consultant running behind & it was after 4, she was lovely & answered all my queries, gave me lots of reassurance. She then said I could have a sweep if I wanted, I hadn't really expected this as I was only 39+2, she examined me & said cervix softened & as close to front without being open as possible (hope I picked that up correctly). She had a really good poke around , aren't they thorough, and said things were pretty favourable & either her or consultant would perform a second sweep on Monday next week if I hadn't delivered.
What I'm wondering is has anyone else had this done before 40 weeks & what happened, so far felt nothing unusual, I have had some period like pains/sporadic contractions a couple of times in last couple of weeks, which have all come to nothing but not overnight or today.
I know I was being a bit daft to presume it'd all kick off overnight but you still like to be hopeful at this stage. [fed-up face]

sounds like you are good to go ! excellent ! i had a sweep both times before EDD, neither worked, but i was not as favourable as you sound, lots of sex and nipple stim for you !

You can request one here from 38 weeks but no a lot of people know that! I only know 1 girl that it worked for.

Lulu I'm a bit too much like John Wayne at the moment to let DH near me! Needs must I suppose.
Midwife actually said Castor oil & OJ works but you didn't hear it from me. Fortunately I'm not daft/desperate enough to try & I don't know if that's why she said it but I was a bit

castor oil is a big no no..you might well end up with raging stomach cramps, labouring on teh loo, or no labour and being stuck on the loo anyway !

That's why I was really surprised she said it, maybe she could see I wasn't the type of person to resort to that but it did take me aback slightly.
Friend made her DH try it when she was overdue for the second time, the look on his face was enough to put her off doing it!
My DH thought she said Castrol Oil

I had a sweep about 2 days before EDD it didn't work even though things were very favourable

she came back and did it 6 days after due date and my waters broke as she drove off

good luck and happy birthing!

I had one at 39 weeks, but it didn't do anything for me. And since I was in hospital, no opportunity for sex either!

i did castor oil and OJ with DD2 - NEVER again.....

im 37+1 now, and REALLY hope my MW offers a sweep before EDD.... think i might cry if not. Its all getting a bit much now.
