Induction at 39 weeks

Just looking for experiences of other people who've had induction before their due date. I'm worried that because I'll only be 39 weeks my body won't be ready and it will take more and be more hard on my body, than an induction because you're over due for example.

Shouldn't have read about people's induction experiences because I've scared myself. Really hope to not have to have the drip but worrying I'll have to as my body won't be ready.

Induced at 39 weeks. Went in on Saturday at 3pm first pessary about 6pm, second on Sunday morning. By 10am getting contractions, 10.30 really painful ones but coping by being on the bounce ball etc ( they didn’t bring me that gas and air and were going to be coming round with paracetamol shortly because they didn’t expect it to go so fast), on delivery room by 11.30, had her at 2pm on the Sunday. She was obviously ready to come.

Is it your first baby?

My sister had induction about 5 days before due date. She was eventually put on the drip when they were able to break her waters and had baby within 5hrs of active labour easy peasy lol.

Me on the other hand I was 41 wks they broke my waters as soon as I went in put me on the drip and 15hrs later she was born by emcs so who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️ it's not all doom n gloom just different ppl reacting in different ways.

Why are they inducing you early? I know people who have sweeps. Is this what you mean or will it be a pessary or a chemical induction?

I was induced at 37 weeks (I was 38 weeks by the time he arrived). I had a sweep plus a pessary - nothing happened. 24 hours later I had a sweep plus a second pessary. DS arrived 5 hours later. I don't think he was ready, but the pessaries got him moving along regardless! Good luck, OP.

It's my 3rd baby. I'm being induced because I'm on blood thinners and they want me to come off them a day before I go into Labour so I don't bleed too much. So this way they can control it.
I'm hoping because I've had 2 babies already that will help me and my body will know what to do. Its good in a way because I can prepare but I'm also scared knowing the exact day I'll be going in!

My daughter was induced at 38 weeks. She had her first pessary at 2pm on the Saturday and spent the Sunday bouncing on her ball and walking with us around the hospital grounds and grabbing a coffee.She went go labour suite 9 pm and baby born the following morning.The epidural was amazing and my daughter was in ful control of her pain relief Her community midwife came in to deliver out beautiful granddaughter at 9 am ....a perfect birth 👏

Second baby was induced 10 days early (38 weeks). It was fine. I had the pessary inserted Tuesday am, nothing happened that day / night. Wednesday am they broke my waters. Few hours later I was getting a few contractions but they wanted to speed it up by putting me on a induction drip. Knew things were going to get intense so opted for an epidural before the induction drip. Nice, calm afternoon passed (even slept a bit). Checked early evening and I was fully dilated, pushed for 20 minutes and lo arrived safe and sound! I found it a great birth compared to my first which was spontaneous at 39 weeks and a long back to back labour followed by episiotomy and forceps delivery!

Induced at 38 weeks, dc2, drip for 3 hours, baby out. No pain relief and not any more painful than dc1. The canula did actually hurt though!

Thanks all, very reassuring hearing all these. Got to be in tomorrow at 9am so have to take my last blood thinning injection tonight. Now I'm worrying about my blood clotting 😂 can you tell I have bad anxiety!

Hopefully this time in a few days it will all be a distant memory (and no more babies for me!!)

I had my DD induced at 42 weeks and it was awful and ended up on the drip! The delivery (once I finally got to 10cm was amazing however 👍)
I don't think gestation has anything to do with it 😊 Good luck!

Thanks, I'm just really scared of having the drip and hoping the pessary works. Really don't want an epidural (not against drugs, I just have a real fear of that)

I was induced at 37 weeks. 2 pessarys 6 hours apart which got me to 3cm with no pains coming regularly then they broke my waters and my daughter was born 2 hours later. Very very fast when it came down to it.

I was induced at 38 weeks. Went in, was 2cm and they were able to break my waters. DS was born 14 hours later

I mean the drip was crap but don't be scared 😊 It's bearable even without an epidural (I had one which failed) and the baby at the end makes it all worth it 😊 You'll be grand 🥰 xxxx

For what it's worth I would opt not to have the epidural again anyway in this situation so it can't have been that bad! Xxxx

I do feel a bit better about it now, I doubt I'm going to get much sleep tonight though!!

Would definitely recommend going straight for epidural with an induction. I opted for one as quicker labours are more painful and it didn't work and I passed out from the pain. It took me 40 mins to go from 3cm to 10cm and it was like nothing I could've ever imagined 😳

I will see how I feel if I need to have drip but really would rather not have an epidural

Just had to have a mobile ultrasound brought into the ward as they thought baby felt breech, but no she apparently just has a bony bum !
Thought it might have to be a section for a while so I'm feeling a bit more positive about induction now as the lesser of two evils!

I was induced at 39+2 (said he was small on scans, came out 7.6lbs )

I didn't have the pessary as I was already dilated. Do I had the drip. The initial 6 hours (I think) when they start to reduce the amount of it. Within an hour of them reducing the dose I was in active labour and he was born just over 2 hours later. That was my first baby.
May have to do it again with my current baby as he's apparently scanning small too. Scans at 39+1 so will be similar induction time to my first.

With this being your 3rd baby I'm sure your body will know what to do. Try not to worry.

Thanks, I've had the pessary, I'm 2cm but I know from past babies that doesn't mean much. Just counting on ball and feeling an idiot. My first 2 I was in loads of pain and on gas and air so wasn't as self conscious! Hoping I'll start to feel something soon

Do they generally break your waters? Every time I ask I just seem to get 'we'll see where you're up to when we examine you'

Ive had 2 inductions bor baby number 2 and 3.

Both needed pessary and drip (and they had to break my waters). I genuinely couldnt have coped without an epidural and it all happens so quickly. . (I had my first baby with absolutely nothing)
Baby 2, there was only 3 hours between breaking drip and giving birth.

Baby 3 was not a good experience. I was 38 weeks. I had 3 pessaries and still no dilations. Midwife tried to open cervix with fingers (incredibly painful) and when that didnt work, they leant on my stomach so that the baby’s head would be pushed down and would open the cervix enough to break my waters. No word of a lie, this was more painful than labour!!!!!
Im not telling you this to scare you, but 1) dont rule out the epidural
2) insist on gas and air from the beginning and 3) if they cant break your waters after 3 days and 3 pessaries, DO NOT let them open it manually

😱😱😱 This has horrified me! My God! I have never heard of this. This will not be happening to me if I end up in this situation! You poor thing!
