Private maternity care

I have some questions about private maternity care, specifically for an elective c-section. Sorry- loads of questions coming up!!

Does anyone have an idea of cost of consultants fees? I’m guessing they are all fairly similar to remain competitive? Hospital fees seem to be published but not consultant/anaesthetist ones.

Does anyone recommend a particular hospital? Keen for one with an NHS unit attached in case either of us need it

How did you approach with your NHS team if having NHS care for everything except the birth?

Has anyone used a private hospital whilst living many miles away from London? Thinking tricky logistics....

So many questions, hit me with your answers!

Hi, so I’m yet to give birth but I’m booked for a csection at the Lindo Wing in April. I live about 1.5hours out of London so only booked with my consultant for delivery only package (I start seeing him from 35 weeks). For full antenatal care the prices I saw for various consultants ranged between £7500-£10000 on top of the Lindo wing fees, plus the anaesthetist fees which I have just had the invoice for £1500. Lindo wing is £7950 for csection including 1 night stay, and then an additional £1200 per night thereafter, they recommend you stay 3-5 nights, although I plan to stay 2-3 depending how I feel and assuming all goes straight forward. I have a private midwife nearer to home as I wanted face to face appointments as opposed to a mix of telephone and face to face which is what the nhs currently offers in my area with covid. I’ve had scans on the nhs and I am technically registered with them for the birth at the moment until my care transfers at 35weeks or earlier if I choose to. Hope that helps x

Hi

I highly recommend St Thomas hospital (the private wing). I had my c section there 3 weeks ago and am very pleased. Cost: circa 6k for the hospital including 2 nights, £950 anaesthetist, £7500 consultant (including antenatal care + delivery).
